My friend and I were looking forward to checking this place out and made a special trip there to do so since neither of us are from the area. I arrived first and stood at the counter since I wasn’t sure if it’s seat yourself or not. Had to wait awhile, it was obvious they were busy. I asked if the small table for two in front of the counter was the only table available and was told yes so I took it. My friend arrived shortly. There was a wait until we received menus and we were each given glass of water. We tried to ask the server what’s included in high tea and she walked away from us. We were wondering if she did not notice that we were talking to her and were left confused. She did come back later and answer the question but kept saying how they needed two days notice for it. We were not trying to order it, just curious since other tables had cute little tiered serving platters on them but we couldn’t tell what was on them exactly. I took a peek in the other room which is the other side of the cafe and there appeared to be some open seating available. After a wait we were able to order. My friend asked if the pulled pork in her dish is very sweet, if it has bbq sauce on it. The server didn’t seem to know so my friend asked if she could get the dish without the pulled pork and was told yes. We ordered drinks and our meal since we had to wait awhile for our server to come to take our order (was not staggered where you order drinks first and then your food afterwards). While the server was taking our order, I asked her if we could sit on the other side since it was very cold where we were since we got a blast of cold air directly at us any time the door was opened. She said they were full and that the open spots on the other side were for reservations so fair enough, we stayed put. We waited a very long time after ordering and never received our drinks which were not complicated drinks (orange juice and a chai tea latte). Many people left and came during this time. The new customers who just arrived were all greeted and sat (this is not the experience I had upon arrival). A party of two came in who clearly did not have a reservation since they told the server that it was for two and she took them to the other side. I asked the server why she told me there were no available seats on the other side when she just sat two patrons over there who didn’t have a reservation. She made a couple of excuses and then said “well do you want the big table”? I agreed since it was on the warmer side, more roomier and a couple of the chairs had cushions on them (we had two very uncomfortable wood chairs with no cushions before moving). We took our now empty water glasses with us and changed tables. We were left at our new table for quite awhile. When our food finally arrived, a server plunked it down and left without a word. My friend tried to tell her that we still hadn’t received our drinks but she completely ignored her. The other server came with our drinks afterwards. My chai latte was cold (I assume it was made and sat waiting to be served so long that it was cold upon receiving). I had the classic eggs Benedict which was good but there was hardly any hollandaise sauce on it which for me, is the best part. My tiny ramekin of ketchup was only a quarter filled so I didn’t have enough ketchup for my wedges. We had to ask for more water as our glasses sat empty for some time. My friends dish was supposed to have bacon and mushrooms in it. There was no bacon and one little piece of mushroom. When we told the server she said that there should have been bacon in it and that she told the cook to put bacon in it and that she would have to talk to the cook. She never came back to address the matter. I believe her shift ended as I saw her leave some time afterwards. My friend was charged full price for a dish that didn’t include all the ingredients it should have. She is close to her due date, heavily pregnant with twins so I felt extra awful that the whole affair was such a disappointment. We didn’t enjoy our experience and...
Read moreWe came here for Mother’s Day for the high tea. This was our first time here, the place is very nice. The service was okay. We made sure to mark down that we needed no diary for two guests, which was why we chose this place they stated they had vegan options and could do no dairy. We even called to confirm with a staff before hand.
When they marked our reservation down from their online booking they forgot to transfer the note? This meant when we came and were seated, we waited 45 minutes before getting any food. Tables seated after us already had food and were eating and almost done. I’m not sure if they rushed to thaw things but the food was definitely not worth writing home for. The vegan desserts were far from decent, definitely wouldn’t go back for them. Which is a huge disappointment given that there are amazing vegan desserts and bakery’s these days. The baked goods both used what seemed like the same batter, which was filled with seeds. The icing tasted almost like pure crisco. The scones seem like they rush thawed them because the texture wasn’t great? Seemed like they covered them an microwaved them so they were very soft, or they covered them after baking while still hot. Either way they weren’t great.
The sandwiches were good but not worthy of coming back for the high tea experience to get just the sandwiches.
Our one guest ordered coffee but that was forgotten about for quite some time- almost till the food arrived. Our child wanted tea and even though the menu stated there was a fruit tea the server had no idea of them having fruit tea.
I’m sure this could be a really great experience had the food and service been better because the atmosphere was beautiful but it really failed to meet the bare minimum on...
Read moreHad the High Tea the other day with 2 friends. I/we were terribly disappointed and I speak for the others when I say "never again". We were instructed by an individual (middle age) to arrive earlier, only an hour before our original timeframe as she had a personal errand to contend with and subsequently the restaurant would be closing at 4. Had to scramble to get ready to accommodate this woman's request. That's not how customers are to be treated at least in my definition of customer service. The food was then presented on a 3 tiered tray and I was gobsmacked to see how little there was. Each person had 3 "tiny" and I mean tiny sandwiches, 1 scone, 3 smaller portioned desserts of lesser quality. The sandwiches in total would likely have been a sandwhich cut in 3 less the crust. The Cucumber could not have been sliced any thinner, the Egg Salad was put on so thinly it was almost embarrassing. I'm perfectly aware of margins but this takes the cake. The Teapot was Silver and not polished and kept sliding off the table. I also would have expected that we each have our own Teapot and that the selection of tea be left with us to choose as needed. Please discard your chipped cups. There seems not to be an understanding as to what a High Tea encompasses. I encourage you to do some research please. It is to be an experience, a pleasureable one at that. The price is $30.00 each, yes $90.000s total and while my comprehension of a High Tea is that you aren't expecting full sized sandwiches it certainly isn't to leave the customer feeling cheated and hungry. To top it off the individual that summoned us there earlier was running around asking others to close up shop before the 4 o'clock bell. This is...
