So, my wife and I have always gone to another restaurant in town when getting our Chinese food, but Labour Day rolled around and neither of us felt like cooking so we gave King Lam a chance. I am so happy we did. We ordered a ton of stuff to get a good sampling. First off, Covid measures in place, they were offering take out only. In through the back out through the front, proper distancing mapped out, hand sanitizer in place, single use menus, all staff wearing masks properly.
The wonderful lady taking my order was quick taking the order, read it back to me to ensure accuracy and gave me an estimated time of 20 minutes, which considering how much I ordered, was very fast. Came back 20 minutes later, order was just finished, accurate and piping hot.
Highlight of the meal was the Cantonese Style Chow Mein. The flavours of all the ingredients just complimented each other so well and the shrimps in it were huge and perfectly seasoned. I prefer a different thicker sauce on my Beef and Broccoli, but theirs was still great. We will definitely...
Read moreI think turo has two decent Chinese restaurants and for different reasons. The other place has a better flavoured batter for chicken balls/general tao and the like. But the sauces are just okay. Kim Lam has nothing wrong with their batters. But the sauces are much better. And so this is where I go for Chinese every time. And their General Tao is one of the more authentic recipes too. Now I know some have said best egg rolls in town. But let's be serious, I've yet to have a "good" egg roll anywhere in NS. There is never fresh stuffing in a NS egg roll. They all have a mash of what I refer to as canned cat food inside. BUT, that being said, King Lam does have the best egg rolls in town and the inside is less describable as canned cat food than everywhere else. And to be fair, I lived elsewhere that ALL egg rolls had fresh ingredients and bean sprouts inside and never mashed. So my egg roll opinion is...
Read moreI wanted crab rangoons which seem to be rare in Atlantic Canada. The rangoons were very tiny and I thought they forgot the filling. There was so little filling in them, they should just be called "fried wonton wrappers" because it's a disgrace to crab rangoons. You'd expect them to be cheap since the filling is the expensive part, but they're $9.50. I feel like I got scammed. I also ordered sweet and sour chicken balls and chicken fried rice. I took one bite of a chicken ball and immediately spit it out. The chicken was pink and slimy. The rice was really bad too. The texture was off, it was bland, and what little flavour it did have wasn't good. Overall it was horrendous. The crab rangoons are exorbitant and this is by far the worst chicken balls and rice I've ever had from a...
