I’m not the type to write a review, especially a negative one. But the service my family and I received to night was unacceptable. My dad had just returned from the airport and we headed to Akita and arrived at 9pm, an hour before closing. We were told when we were sat that the last order will be received at 9:30pm, which we had no problem with. We placed our order and when we received our food, we were extremely disappointed. The sushi was 3/4 rice and 1/4 actual fish, maybe even less. I have been to Akita numerous times before and our sushi has never come out this way, ever. While we were picking off the rice from our sushi to make it a manageable amount, we were continuously harassed and rushed to put our orders in. At around 9:20, they told us that we needed to put our last order in because “the staff really wanted to leave”, which were the servers exact words. We ended up rushing in our last order in then and we watched all the staff (including our server) put on their coats and leave right after. I understand, having customers come in late is disappointing and I was hesitant in coming. But our family and I thought an hour before closing would’ve been fine as we are quick eaters and weren’t planning on staying for too long. The leafs game was on so we decided against going to chucks or boston pizza as it would be crowded and we wanted a more intimate dinner. Nonetheless, it was a disappointing experience, especially as it was my dads first dinner with his kids after going a couple months without seeing us and this was after a long 20 hour flight back to Canada. Read morePlease, please, please DONT EAT HERE! Please save your money for something edible. Where to begin… I’ve order off and on a couple of times and every time I’ve been so upset. Whether it be the tempura tasting stale or the rice on the Maki Rolls just falling apart and looking more like a rice mush then anything else, the food is always sub par.
This last time I ordered I actually made a mistake on Uber as I meant to order from Neko Sushi (which is 1000 times better by the way so eat there) and I placed my order with Akita. Of course when my sushi arrived there were problems. For one the wrong sushi came and was not what I ordered. Secondly the beef teriyaki maki was more like a mushy bowl of soup. So I decided to call them to have them bring me my proper order and fix the problem. The person one answered was horrible. He was asking me how he was suppose to fix the problem because he didn’t know. Then when he spoke to his manager, she told him they couldn’t do anything. Kept me on the phone for 10 minutes to which I finally hung up.
THAT IS IT! Please don’t do it. Don’t order here. Don’t dine in here ( also really really bad, service and all you can eat). Just stay away. My wife has been telling me for a while that Akita Sushi is hot garbage and I’m finally listening.
I don’t even know how this place remains open. There is a reason why there are so many negative reviews. We’re there's smoke there’s fire!
I have never, let me say that again NEVER written a review about any other company, restaurant, or any other type of establishment. But this has to be said!
This place is Absolutely Atrocious! Please consume your sushi elsewhere. If this review stops just one person from eating at Akita Sushi then it's done its job however it should really detour...

I ordered using their online platform (Order on the Go) Akita called me once the order had gone through on my end that they were not able to confirm the order and I must place an order over the telephone and pay again. I was a little apprehensive about paying again but they assured me a refund would be issued in the next couple days. So I agreed to place the order over the telephone and pay when I pick up my order. I waited several days before returning to the restaurant asking for my refund because I did not get it back. No one there spoke English until I asked for someone who did. They said they will call me once they figure out the refund situation. They called me the next day to tell me Order on the Go is responsible for issuing the refund and that I must call them directly. This was annoying, so I did just that. After many conversations and text messages from someone at Akita, I have not received a refund. It was a $49 meal that I paid twice.
The food has gotten worse over the years. The sashimi pieces are not served their full size they cut them in half. They don't take pride in their craftsmanship when making special rolls or any rolls/sushi for that matter. It's rush rush rush and you can taste it in the food. I've received partially frozen sashimi. And on another occasion while eating in, was forced to leave my unfinished food because they were closing, they would not let me pack it away and it was cooked food not raw items!
Just run away from this place. If you want quality sushi I would highly recommend NEKO...
