I decided to try Dal Roti first time in years. Their brand is quite well known, all the way when they started in Mississauga I believe. Unfortunately this will be the first and last time I’ll visit this chain as it left me underwhelmed and disappointed by the taste, quality and value they offer.
I ordered a Goat Curry, Chicken Lababdar, Lacha paranta and tawa roti. Their prices are a bit higher than the traditional Indian restaurants in the area as they attempt to project themselves as fine dining, but based on what I ate tonight, the meat shop up the road near the Esso offers better tasting food.
Goat Curry: Overwhelming notes of cinnamon (dal chini) with a touch of sweatness, little or no goat flavour. Goat is hard and chewy, flavourless. For $17.99 the portion could be better but compared to other restaurants, pretty much the same. No the worst goat curry I’ve had, but it’s in the bottom half of of them. Chicken Lababdar, excellent curry, perfect balance of spices, but for this price we expect white meat, not dark.
Lacha Paranta, cooked on the inside, raw on the inside, this was awful.
Tawa roti, didn’t finish above so little desire to eat it. My order took about 45 mins, which was odd since the restaurant was completely empty, which adds to my second point and supports what I have said above, the restaurant is in a hyper competitive market and offers lackluster food for premium fine dining prices. Judging by how empty it was on a Saturday evening, I’m not the only one who feels this...
Read moreWent there on an occasion. I think it’s a newly opened restaurant with 20+ seat covers only. There was only another couple dining in, may be due to a weekday but I think when its full during weekends, it may get congested there. This is not a fine dine.
Service is good as the lady serving the food was very kind and polite.
We ordered the following :-
1.Paneer Tikka: Presentation is good, comes in small pieces with lots of cabbage which is a waste and may be replaced with bell peppers and tomatoes. Imli chutney added to it makes it tangy which may not be needed.
Mango Panna: It had an acidic flavour which I didn’t like.
Dal Makhani: Very basic with butter on the top. Dal is not thick at all as it may not have been cooked long enough with enough butter added while cooking. There’s no flavour.
Paneer Lababdar: Paneer a little hard, again small pieces, lots of red chilli powder used for making it spicy and red. Again, didn’t like it.
Veg Biryani: Again very spicy, may be too much red chilli powder used in it too. Rice was quite thin, better to use Sella Rice (thick and long) for Biryanis.
Garlic Nan was good, Lachcha Parantha can be softer from inside.
Hope your kitchen exhaust is...
Read moreMy recent visit to Dal Roti Brampton was nothing short of disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the owner was extremely rude and confrontational. He kept insisting that we ensure all items ordered were paid for, which was unnecessary as we fully intended to pay for everything we ordered.
When we provided feedback that the dal was bland, instead of addressing the issue and attempting to make it right, the owner dismissively told us to compare it to their other branch. This response was unhelpful and unprofessional.
Additionally, our order was incomplete. We never received the pickle and salad we ordered, which further added to our dissatisfaction. It felt like a complete waste of our hard-earned money.
The lack of basic customer service skills was evident. The owner needs to learn proper manners and the server could benefit from training in hospitality. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend Dal Roti Brampton. Save your money and...
