Just left this place. I highly DO NOT recommend this place. You expect customer service going when going to a restaurant to eat, which this place lacks immensely! We went out to celebrate a birthday, left in a horrible mood, spent majority of our time talking to police that the owner called accusing us of strangling him!!!! Firstly, we made a reservation, we got stuck in traffic and we had the courtesy of calling them and informing of them that we would be a little late. When we arrived, we asked the waiter if they could put our cake in the fridge, they refused saying that they are SELF SERVE! Hmm you are a restaurant, can you not do that? Next we placed our order and they told us that we have x amount of time because they have another reservation. They were so rude the whole time. While we were eating our father choked on something so we asked for a glass water, they said they were self serve and couldn't do that so we took a bottle of water and they asked us to pay first and we said we would in a second. We had already paid for our order, it was so rude, like we aren't gonna run away with a water bottle. Later we went back to ask for more yogurt and they said they don't give more. We were willing to pay but still they acted so disrespectful. My father got really annoyed and got up to say that we are here to enjoy, please don't take it wrong but you should be more respectful. They owner started being abusive and swearing saying that you should leave when we had already paid and just needed something. He started swearing and acting like we were begging for food. He then started to threaten that he would call the police, we said sure go ahead. We went back to our seats and the police arrived. The police asked if we choked him, and we said no. The police then went back to the owner and the owner denied the fact that we did it. The police was so pissed that they were called for nothing. We had gone to enjoy but came back upset and we didn't even eat even...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of Dawat E Khas for many years, ever since their smaller location a few doors down. The food and service have consistently been excellent, which is why today’s experience was such a disappointment.
We ordered the chicken chargha and kabab karahi. The kabab karahi was delicious, as were the naans. However, the chicken chargha fell short in two major ways—it had an unpleasant smell and was served at room temperature.
I politely approached the counter to mention this, but the staff’s response made the situation worse. Instead of addressing my concern, one of the staff members (not the owner with the cool white hair, but another guy) dismissed my feedback, insisting the chicken was warm and freshly cooked. This wasn’t true—the grills were off, the chicken wasn’t warm, and it tasted stale.
What upset me most wasn’t the food itself but how my feedback was handled. Rather than showing empathy or offering to fix the issue, the staff member argued with me and tried to make it seem like I was mistaken. This lack of understanding and willingness to resolve the issue was frustrating.
I’ve always appreciated Dawat E Khas for their quality food and service, but experiences like this leave a negative impression. Mistakes happen, but how they’re handled makes all the difference. I hope the owner takes this feedback seriously and trains staff to be more empathetic and solutions-oriented when customers raise concerns.
I brought a friend to try Dawat E Khas for the first time, and even he noticed the smell and temperature issue with the chicken. This was a missed opportunity to show him why I’ve loved this restaurant for so long.
I hope this was just an off day, and I look forward to better experiences in the future. The food has always been excellent, and I trust this can be resolved.
P.S. I also recommend playing some music in the restaurant. It was awfully quite and felt rather depressing in an empty restaurant...
Read moreCame here based on a suggestion. I ordered the following: biryani, chicken salan, kebab, fried fish, 1/2 charga and 2 naans. Bill came to approximetly 60.00. Personally think food is a bit overpriced for quality/quantity provided. Biryani (8.00$)was not that great. tasted like uncooked masala. Chicken salan ($11.00) was pretty tasty. It was just grilled chicken in nihari sauce. Would highly recommend. Based on this would also recommend the nihari too. The kebab to me didnt taste that great. Too bland not enough salt and for $6.00 it was pretty expensive for 2 small peices. My mom on the other hand liked the simplicity of the masalas. The charga was good for $13.00 for half a chicken and plain rice. Thr plain rice was much tastier than expected. Naans were also very large, fresh and tasty! Would recomment charga and the naans. Fried fish (7.00) was over fried. Did not taste that great. Would not recommend. Overall customer service was good and curteous. Place was clean and presentable. Not super formal...
