Just got back from a rather disappointing experience at the Hakka Village. No sooner had we entered and were about to sit down when we were asked to shift to another table rather abruptly! Surprised but nevertheless we did so. We had ordered soups, a couple of beers, a singapore fried rice, mixed noodles and a chili fish plus two glasses of water. The soups came and they tasted good. But then started the turn off...the rice and the fish came - cold! The taste was nowhere near what it used to be. We tried to eat it anyway. Then the wait began for two glasses of water and the noodles. It didnt turn up. My husband tried to get the server's attention. To no avail. So he went up to the counter and tried to get someone else's attention. That's when a couple at another table threw a storm. Something had gone wrong with their order too. We watched as the other server's voice rose and there was quite a din in there. Other diner's looked up - each one's face a study. We got up, walked up to the counter, cancelled the rest of the order and paid for the rest and walked away. Not going back...
Read moreIn the neighbourhood and wanted to have a sit down lunch rather than a quick serve and this place close by.
After lunch on a Sunday and still a few tables occupied as we were expecting an empty restaurant. The two girls in duty were quick to make us seat give us a menu, serve us water and was back to take orders in a couple of minutes.
Ordered a Veggie Manchurian and a Veggie Fried Rice. The steamed rice was included with the Veggie Manchurian. Requested that there be no or very little oil for the dishes. The dishes were out of the kitchen within a couple of minutes - literally. As if they knew what we were going to order and had them ready!
The Manchurian was quite good actually and the pakoras were crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. The sauce had a perfect blend was spicing and seasonings. The rice was OK. It seemed like the request for oil was not heeded or this was the low oil version - which was too much for us.
The price of food compared to the atmosphere (was...
Read moreThe taste is just fine, nothibg compared to the hype or ratings IMHO. We ordered couple of items. Chicken lollipop - this was really good, thats why 2 stars for the overall order. Hakka village chicken and veg fried rice - it said spicy on their website but the taste was blant. We had to add a good amount of hot sauces to make it tasty. Chicken fried rice was nothing special. Manchurian pakora - great taste but was really sticky and greasy, we had to add water to treat it and make it better. Overall not worth the price in a long shot as the price doesnt justify the quality of the food. Except lollipop didnt really enjoy anything else. Didnt really find indian chinese taste, I am sure if you follow youtube cooking videos and try couple of times - you might make better food. The person who took our order felt very rude, it felt like she was doing us a favor by taking our order. No etiquette or whatever! This is...
