New China Garden — Restaurant in Brampton

Coming to this place regularly since grade 9.. decades... This place used to be the "go-to" place for pretty much all south bramptonians for good hakka foood. Went to this restaurant for dad's birthday dinner, absolutely PATHETIC customer service. Requested the server to bring soup and bring rest of the main course later, typically the main course is served after 10-15 mins of serving the soup/appetizers. The server intentionally brings everything together. Asked him why was everything served together as we are in the middle of having the soup, and had told him to bring the main course AFTER the soup, he said it was the owner who decided to serve everything together. So while we are having the soup, the server piles up all the plates on the table while the maincourse is put on the table beside it as obviously he could see that we have just started the soup. I called the owner and told him the food is lying on the other table and by the time we finish the soup it will be cold by just lying on the table there. To which he says "you are not in a fine dine in we close at 8:30, hence we decided to serve everything together".. i told him a) we were not told by your server that you close at 8:30 on a Friday night, and that its not our concern as he could have shared the same with us and we could have chosen to go somewhere else. Anyways fast forward, he picks up the the rest of food from the table in anger showing zero concern towards people who have been going there for yearssssss.

We dined somewhere else for the main course and actually felt good.

Like I said, this place used to be amazing for hakka chinese but after what happened today I dont care how good the food might be (didnt try it today) the service also holds the equal value so nope not going...

Most people in reviews say the food was good, but they don't explain how it was good.

In this case, the food at New China Garden that I have tried is overpriced and absolutely dull. And I will explain how.

I ordered the lemon chicken with vegetable rice. The service was average. But for a little container of rice, that was filled generously and a container of chicken it was a total of $21 dollars. (Lemon chicken $15!!!) And keep in mind they charge separately for the rice and then the chicken.

When I opened my meal the lemon sauce was in a separate container as was the chicken and the rice.

The sauce:

is super liquidity, you could drink it it isn't sweet at all has a hint of lemon flavor but barely has barely a smell and tastes almost like nothing Tastes like it was thrown together fast and is a wannabe lemon sauce

The chicken

Has a light crisp batter that doesn't cover the entire piece of chicken the batter has no flavor chicken isnt juicy or flavored at all

The rice

good amount of vegetables cooked perfectly average taste, nothing distinct

I have to say my biggest disappointment was the sauce. It soaks up the rice and turns your plate into a soup bowl. It left a bad after taste in my mouth, like I had been chewing on a lemon peel. Putting it on the chicken made it soggy, and since there wasn't flavor it tasted like I was eating wet chicken and rice.

I'm not going back here ever again to waste twenty dollars, and that doesn't include a can of pop, which by the way is two dollars plus tax. You can honestly get better tasting food at a Chinese restaurant in a food court, that's sitting there in the open all day.

Bad food and bad service. I would never go back there even if they gave me free food. We went there on August 1, 2018. Our plan was to go to Hakka Delight which is across the street in Longo's plaza but Hakka Delight was closed that day due to maintenance. We made a bad decision to go to New China Garden restaurant.

We've been eating Indian style Chinese food (Hakka Style) for over 20 years and know how it should taste. The food lacked flavour and was not even taste reasonable. The restaurant wasn't very busy, despite of which we got very bad service.

The two male waiters did not even once check with us to see how the food was and if we nedded anything else. We had to get hold of them to ask for stuff.

At 9.28 pm, I went to the counter to order some additional food for takeout since one of our family member could not make it with us. The waiter told me that the kitchen had already closed. So I asked him whether they would not feed the people who were already sitting inside. He said the menu says what time the kitchen closes. I said to him that it is the restaurant's responsibility to check with the customers who sre already eating, a few minutes before the kitchen closes, to see if they need to order anything else. Another perdon, who I believe is the owner, wss listening to our conversation and asked them to take the order. But he never apologized. It seemed to us that they didn't care about the...
