Souperlicious — Restaurant in Brampton

Honest review!! I am a religious customer that goes multiple times a month. I was one of the very first customers to the Brampton location and continue to support as the owners are really nice.

However lots of improvement needed.

Customer service This organization really needs to hire someone that will train their staff on basic customer service skills. I am honestly tired of the poor service from this place. Everytime I go I brace myself because I don't know the level of rudeness I am getting that visit. You really can't ask a basic question without getting attitude or an annoyed tone from the servers. When the store is not busy the servers will stand off to the side talking amongst themselves sometimes not even acknowledging the customers in the shop.

Food Biggest complaint!! Don't tell the public you are open from 7am to 7pm when most of your food selection is done at 3pm. There is sooooo many times I come at 5pm or 6pm and being told " We nuh have dat" Why open late when most of your food selection for the day is done by 2pm or 3pm. Might as well close the store. You guys really need to work on this. Literally drops of food 😩. Cook enough food so you can serve people at anytime of the day. I understand close to closing time food will be limited. But coming to your store at 230pm and being told food done is unacceptable. The servers will look at you like I'm supposed to know not to come at 3pm looking for food or soup.

Soup

Trust me don't order the oxtail soup. You will only get 1 piece. The servers will stand there straight face telling you that you got more than one piece only to find one piece of oxtail in the soup when you get home. The soups at one point were becoming watered down, so, I stopped ordering soups there as it was a waste of money.

It's been months since I ordered their soup as they were watering it down a lot. I mentioned this to them and they said they have to "stretch the soup". I just started learning how to make my own soups at home becuz clearly getting good soup from there is not an option. I don't know if they have improved this as yet.

Porridge

Only reason why I still go.. their Porridge is amazing.

Top favs Almond Porridge Four way Cornmeal Hominy corn

Power bowls Slightly over priced. I got one for the first time last week and it was cold and unpleasant, dry. Very little flavor.

Try offering different kinds of Porridge.

All in all.. it's black owned and the male owner is really nice. I don't see him as much as I did when the shop first opened. But kudos to you as this is a great idea.. Porridge...

I am surprised by all of these good reviews. I love carribean food, LOVE IT. This place was the biggest miss in a long time, and it was my first time!

I ordered two things and both were a miss. First I ordered the oxtail power bowl, large, and to watch the server literally counting the pieces of oxtail put me off. She kept dipping the laddle back in the oxtail if she took up 1 too many pieces, but the kicker was when she looked in the bowl, I could see her eyes counting, then took her laddle and took one of the pieces of meat out of my bowl and put it back into the pot. FYI, for those Wondering your large oxtail power bowl for $13 is coming with 4 pieces of oxtail, yes FOUR!!!! I then told her I didn't want any veggies, you think that would have gotten me an extra piece of oxtail?? No it didn't. To add insult to injury the oxtail was tough!!

Second the red pea soup that everyone is raving about was horrible! It was thin, and it tasted like grace chicken soup mix. They also use the stringy Jamaican sweet potato,so if you are texture sensitive expect to spend the majority of your time trying to get the potato off of your tongue.

All in all I REGRET that I didn't want to deal with the steeles traffic on a Friday and opted to come here over golden krust. For all those MISTAKINGLY calling this food here good and authentic, do your taste buds a favor and go to...

I would want to say that I am one of the initial customers at this location. I went there today and as I’m accustomed to the points cards they “offered” I enquired about a new card to which one of the owners responded, we do not have them anymore! I retorted “that was short lived” to which she responded “we are the only West Indian restaurant that offered that” I was quite taken aback with the disdain in her tone? Not to mention her co-worker who found her retort funny. Customer service should be paramount in every place of business at all time. When this location first opened I was very instrumental promotion the shop on all my social media and directly with with family and friends. This lady was so repulsed at my simple inquiry that I left the store with my two large soups with trout cutlery. My mother always say class cannot be bought and today spoke loudly to my mothers conviction. To the lady that chose to be so blatantly rude yo me “I was sold at, we don’t do that anymore” but I will never pay for bad customer service, Never.
