I’ve been a regular at this Subway location for quite some time, and I've never had an experience like this before. I went in to order a rice bowl without meat, as I’ve done many times before—at this location and others. However, this time, the manager made it incredibly difficult and rude. She insisted that I would need to pay extra for rice in a RICE BOWL if I wanted to remove the meat. She even smirked at me and told me I had to eat the meat if I wanted to pay the regular price. This has NEVER been an issue in the past. I’ve had this exact request at least 10-15 times in the past month alone, and every other employee has been accommodating, even offering extra rice at the same price when removing the meat.
As someone who has gluten and stomach sensitivities and cannot have bread, and who is also vegan, I’ve always appreciated Subway bowls as a filling meal that accommodates my dietary needs. This made the manager's behavior even more unbelievable. To have a restaurant that promotes healthy eating discriminate against someone based on dietary needs and health issues is unacceptable.
When I mentioned that I’ve had this order countless times in the past few months at this very location, the manager’s response was to bluntly say, “I don’t think so,” essentially calling me a liar. It was frustrating to be treated this way, especially when I’ve been a loyal customer. The manager was not only dismissive but also condescending. She smirked and told me that all the other staff who had served me before were "wrong" and that I was mistaken. Her tone was mocking, and it was clear she was just trying to prove a point. When I pressed for clarification, she hesitated and couldn’t offer a reasonable explanation for the change in policy.
This type of treatment is unacceptable. I will be contacting customer service and taking further action against this behavior, as it was completely inappropriate and discriminatory.
