From Scratch Cafe Bistro — Restaurant in Brantford

I went here 2 days in a row to make my review as accurate as possible. My partner got the bagel and lox both days because he loved it so much. I bought 3 cheese and 3 everything bagels the first time plus a buffalo cream cheese. The bagels are delicious and fresh but this week they were all a plain bagel with different toppings, poppy seeds on top, cheese on top, everything mix on top, it’s a plain bagel a little bit dressed up. The buffalo cream cheese was fantastic and a brilliant idea but there’s nothing on the container, no date it was prepared, no date it’s best used by, no ingredients. The first day I went it was one of two left, the second day I went there was one left so they obviously aren’t making it daily. People don’t eat that much cream cheese in a sitting so at minimum I think they should have some kind of date on it. The second day I went I got two bags of bagel chips and the jalapeño dip. The chips and dip both have the same issues as the cream cheese, no dates, no ingredients, nothing when they were all there the day before. I was surprised the jalapeño dip had some kind of meat in it or at least mine did. When I think jalapeño poppers I don’t think meat. Over all I really liked the buffalo cream cheese, I’ve never seen that before but I don’t know when I’m supposed to stop eating it. The bagels are super fresh and delicious but I was expecting more variety. The jalapeño dip was meh and the meat in it threw me off. The bagel chips were honestly chewy but the girl working did tell me they were made with last week’s specialty bagels so they had probably been sitting all week by the time I bought them. Is it worth the price plus tip prompt? No, not if you’re going in for grab and go. Local bakeries make the same and somehow manage to put ingredients and best before dates on things. Is it worth the price if you’re buying a meal, maybe? Like I said my partner really enjoyed the salmon. I personally wouldn’t branch out like he did at a place with low to non existent food safety...

Overall - 5/5 - I have been wanting to try this little gem since the day they opened and I regret not trying them sooner. Today I visited with my partner and we both ordered the "Sweet Baby Jesus". With an simple but pleasurable atmosphere you will get delicious food with fast & friendly service. I recommend From Scratch for anyone looking for a good bagel or brunch spot. I will definately be back.

Food - 5/5 - On todays order we both ordered off their Chef Menu and got the "Sweet Baby Jesus" burger. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger as it was juicy, the bacon was perfectly done and the sauces added a nice mixture of flavour. Only thing that would have made the burger better for me would be to have some fries with it but they do offer chips, which I will have to try in the future.

Service - 4/5 - Service is to be expected from a Bistro styled restauraunt. Upon entering, we ordered our food at the counter and had a seat. They brough us our food pretty quickly after ordering. Service is simple but friendly.

Atmosphere - 5/5 - I enjoyed the decor at From Scratch. They showcase local artists, in which you can buy the artwork. Store is easy to navigate, and not over crowded. I had an absolutely glorious dining experience at From Scratch! Right from the start, the service was impeccable, setting the tone for a memorable visit. Chef James truly outdid himself with a menu brimming with innovative and delectable dishes, all crafted, as the name suggests, from scratch (and changes WEEKLY!). The flavors were on point, and each dish was a delightful surprise.

The company, too, was exceptional—Terra was wonderful and added so much joy with her warmth and charm. Her recommendations from the menu were spot-on, enhancing my dining experience tremendously.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is sweet and inviting, with thoughtful decor that complements its convenient location perfectly (you can even buy art!).

It's an ideal spot for any occasion, whether a casual lunch or a special celebration.
