I just returned from 2 weeks traveling through Italy where I had numerous types of pizza from Rome, Tuscany and Venice. I was excited to get back to Brantford to try a pizza from Mercasa’s as they advertise themselves as “authentic Italian eatery”

I thought I would try their Viva la Figa pizza as the pizza pictured on their website looked delicious. Unfortunately, I was greatly disappointed.

When I opened the box at home Iwas shocked that I couldn’t find any “thinly sliced prosciutto” as advertised. The following are pictures of both the pizza shown on their website and a picture of the pizza I received. Note the picture on their website shows obvious prosciutto while the one I got had so little prosciutto that I struggled to find it. Essentially I paid $28 for cheese bread with balsamic vinegar. I called the restaurant to express my disappointment and to their credit they offered to replace the pizza. I live on the outskirts of Brantford and by the time I would have received the replacement it would not have been worth it.

The pizza pictured on their site looks like the pizzas you get in Italy but what I got was not even close. The pricing seemed excessive for what I received.

The only positive thing I can say is the crust was close to what I experienced in Rome. Light and airy but a tad thick for my liking.

I was hoping to post a glowing review like some of the others already have but instead I feel let-down. What a shame.

I realize we are not in Italy but I do believe in truth in advertising.

People are already struggling and eating out is a luxury. I dont think it is too much to expect that you are given an honest description of what you are buying.

First impressions count however I will try and give them the benefit of the doubt. I will try some of their other products and get...

The pizza met my expectations, I’ve been seeing amazing pictures from locals getting takeout in a relatively new “support local takeout group”. I had high hopes for a delicious meal. I would definitely have the “Canades-eh!” pizza again. The crust was perfect, the sauce and cheese very flavourful. The toppings could be a little more generous, we didn’t have a lot of bacon on our pizza.

I wouldn’t waste your time with the crispy calamari. It was a large portion but ours came severely undercooked. I had to bake it to finish cooking it. Even after that, it was tasteless with gobs of breading. I’m sure it came out of a giant bag that was frozen prior, it was definitely not made in house. The reason we ordered the calamari was because of the pictures on your Facebook page, it looked drool worthy; what we took home looked absolutely nothing like the pictures in the ads. It was highly disappointing to say the least.

I was also underwhelmed by the Nutella Cheesecake. It’s expensive and just literally a plain cheesecake with a swipe of Nutella on the top. It wasn’t even artistic looking like most cheesecakes are nowadays. I had hoped it would be amazing but unfortunately it fell short.

I do have a suggestion... update your phone system. I could barely hear you on the other end and I know you couldn’t hear me by how many times I was told this. It was extremely frustrating trying to order. I will probably take up valuable cell space on my phone to download your app so that I don’t have to deal with a call again.

We will be back for the pizza (because it is delicious) and maybe try some...

Mercasa catered our wedding this past Saturday for approx 110 guests here in Hamilton. From the beginning, everything went great. Tom helped us plan our menu to include everything we wanted. We met with him several times to go over everything in detail and sample the menu. He was always available by email which was great.

We started our evening with the antipasto buffet which was stunning. We had so many compliments from guests stating it was the best they’ve ever seen with lots of variety of meats, cheeses, breads, etc. The serving staff looked so professional and were welcoming guests with hors d'oeuvres. The goat cheese/ jam/ puff pastry was our favourite!

We had our dinner buffet style and had the lasagna, panko chicken, shrimp skewers and vegetables. It was served hot and on time. The staff served the buffet which went quick so all 110 guests had their dinner within 15 minutes. Everything was delicious- the lasagna and chicken were the best I’ve ever had. On tables we had family style salad and bread with garlic butter- a perfect compliment to the buffet dinner. Clearing the tables happened right away and the staff replenished water when needed.

Our late night table had a variety of gourmet pizzas and porchetta paninis. The porchetta and buns were fresh and cooked to perfection. His specialty pizzas were everyone’s favourite.

This was all beyond our expectations. I would trust Mercasa with any event and will definitely be going to them again...

Wowowowwow! 6 out of 5 stars! My first time trying this place and I am absolutely blown away. First, I was greeted by the loveliest lady (whom I later learned was named Carolina). She was so friendly and so passionate about the food here that I asked her if she was the owner!!! She was not, then I asked if she's related to the owner.. She also was not. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and excited about their dishes - I could've swore she had a hand in the place. I proceeded to order the chicken parm sandwich combo after her rave reviews. When I say I was not prepared for the quality of this meal. Ooooof! The bread? Soft, melt in your mouth, decadent focaccia. The chicken parm? Beautifully made. Very yummy sauce. Even the Caesar salad was delicious. Fresh, real ingredients. The chocolate chip cookie, my gosh. Not needed by any means, I was absolutely stuffed - but had to try. It did not disappoint! I can't speak highly enough of this place and I will definitely be back. And to the owner, Carolina deserves a serious pat on the back. What a gem!
