A hard one to rate as in the past we have loved this restaurant. We waited soooooo long for Nachos it was beyond ridiculous and there was no acknowledgement of this even when delivered. The man beside us underexposed after us and recieved qnd had eaten a huge roast dinner wih yorkshire and all the fixings prior to our food even arriving. The nachos had hardly qny toppings or cheese, aside the top layer and edges. As someone who works in and manages in the f and b/hospitality industry I can almost gaurantee which that our nachos were probably made off the menu (they come with beef) and it was most likely missed that we requested the beef on the side as I am vegetarian yet my partner is a carnivore. This or whatever caused the length of time for our nachos should have been addressed and acknowledged. Possibly an issue that our server was "sent on break" immediately after taking our order. Personally I appreciate it when servers communicate to me personally when they are going on break not when the manager comes over to speak like they are a minion and have been sent away for 20 minutes. I like to empower my staff and have them engage with clients and have open dialogue about everything including kitchen delays or mistakes or whatever. When asked how it was I had to be honest and I was very polite and, genuine and sincere with my feedback about how long it took and that no one acknowledged that and said look at the nachos as anyone who gave 5 seconds to look at them would know. Although the manager said he would take 10$ off the bill he was not present or even really listening and was literally walking away as I replied and spoke over his shoulder at us like we were inconveniences him for even being there. We drove from Port Renfrew without eating qt our campsite or any of a multitude of choices along our route and the combination of the above was a major disappointment. Ubsure if we will go back. Quality is very important. Customer Service is very important. Consistency of both is incredibly important is you want and expect to keep return guests...
Read moreNot really a fan of this place... Ordered a fajita. Yes, you read that right, not fajitas (with an s) like it should be, but one single cheeseless fajita! I asked for extra cheese and there was almost no cheese in it at all. (Most restaurants serve you 4 fajitas, not 1, and for less money, and they taste better.) I thought I'd finally found a place around here that served them, but oh boy was I wrong.
And it was so full of sauce that it was soggy on the bottom, which caused the tortilla to fall apart while attempting to eat the sad little thing. It also didn't even come with lettuce, which is not how fajitas should be served. It was mostly stuffed with peppers and little else. I can tell they were trying to save on costs, which is ridiculous considering the price of the food here is super high, like $30-$40 per plate. I think they could afford to put proper ingredients in it for that much. I ordered chicken but also found bits of what appeared to be beef stuck to it and some inside it, which horrified me because I dislike beef or pork, hence why I ordered chicken. Cross-contamination is a serious health risk.
I also tried to order mozzarella sticks, but they didn't have any marinara sauce, so I cancelled those because that is ridiculous. There is also no excuse to run out of sauce when you share a parking lot with a grocery store that sells marinara sauce. Their fries were boring, bland, frozen fries. Even the salsa they served with the fajita was not homemade, but storebought. Tostitos brand, even. And we had to wait forever for our server to finally bring us a drink refill, which sucked a lot since I'd ordered something with hot sauce on it.
This is not a good place at all and I definitely will not be back. I would laugh about it if I weren't so completely...
Read moreStopped in on the way to Comox Easter Sunday. Reviews were good and the place was packed and they advertised home cooking. I lived in Duncan and remember eating there as a kid of 8. I'm 60 now so I thought they must be doing something right. I ordered the two piece fish chips. It wasn't bad. Two small pieces of fish and frozen battered fries. Decent tartar. Good slaw. No problem finishing it and I'm not a big eater. My girlfriend had the clubhouse . Not impressed . The turkey was Superstore deli turkey. The cheap stuff. The bacon was not plentiful and was so thin it appeared to be one sided. The toast was dry to the point of painful. Lack of mayo or butter which was an oversight I'm sure. It's not hard to make a clubhouse worthy of the $20 your charging for it. It doesn't take alot. Decent turkey and bacon, crunchy vegetables . Great bread. This failed on most fronts. Accompanied with frozen fries which were OK. Maybe try a different side ? Daughter went for a breakfast bowl which she liked. But once again a bunch of prebought items like tatertots , bacon crumbles, shredded cheese ect with some well cooked eggs. It was OK but as with everything else it had nothing to differentiate it from its high price tag. Unfortunately all 3 meals lacked any originality or unique technique . I'm sure with some better direction and a loosening of the purse strings this could change. We had 3 meals and 3 coffees and with tax and tip 10% ( service was fast and good. Our waitress had the largest fake eyelashes I had ever witnessed ! She could have started a campfire with them !😄) Our bill was $88. But honestly White Spot does this type of dining much better for less. Too bad . It would be nice to rave about a place with...
