, I am very disappointed , I popped in tonight for takeout. Ordered vegetarian pad, Thai vegetable, spring rolls, and chicken satay. I was the only one in the restaurant at the time, and I heard them start preparing the food right away, I could actually hear the sizzling of something but perhaps they weren’t preparing my food? The food came up very fast I drove 10 minutes home and everything was stone cold , not even a little warm it was seriously cold. The pad Thai is gluey. The vegetables are over cooked. The broccoli is almost yellow and the noodles were all stuck together in big clumps like it had been sitting there for a while. The spring rolls were cold and greasy The chicken satay was good but cold I’m not sure what the additional sauce was that came with the spring rolls… But it had that really tangy powdered ginger flavor… and the rest of the ingredients seem to be cornstarch and water, see picture. I am super disappointed not only because this was a waste of $50+ … but because I think this is the only Thai place in Duncan

Usually good food, especially when they use the thick coconut milk for their curry, which is seasonal as I was told. Today, we ordered take out red curry lunch amongst other dishes. My issue was that they combined the curry with the rice in one container, and unfortunately, all the curry was absorbed into the rice and I had no curry left for the meal. I called and spoke to the chef, and she said that is how they do it. I asked her if she likes to eat curry with no sauce, and have rice with all the sauce, and she said yes! lol. Doesn’t make any sense to me. Two orders in a row with issues. No making it right or offering to remake so I could enjoy the meal. I hope something will be adjusted with this review for the future. Make sure you ask for them to be separate as this is their best practice. Thank you.

Ordered take-out: red curry with prawns, double chicken, coconut rice, and an order of chicken satay. It was fantastic. The flavour of the curry was unreal. Chicken satay cooked perfectly with delicious peanut sauce. Total was 45$ with the extra protein added. I think I would have been disappointed if I didn’t add the extra meat. I ordered ‘hot’ but I’m wondering if they have an extra hot option as I didn’t find it very spicy. The rice was delicious and fluffy as well. 10/10 will be ordering again when I find myself in Duncan.

We have been regular customers for over a decade. We have never had a bad meal. Every meal has had quality ingredients, nicely cooked, with flavours we enjoy, and the spice levels we like. The service has always been prompt and pleasant.

So why am I rating Phad Thai Duncan only three stars and not five stars? Why do I rate “service” three stars when I compliment the service employees?

Not because of the considerable price increases in recent years but because of the unpredictability of its openings. I consider advising customers accurately and in advance of closures to be part of the owners’ “service”.

Several times in the past I have checked the website to make sure Phad Thai was open for dinner, only to arrive to find locked doors. I pointed this out and was told the website would be corrected. Months later the inaccurate information remained. It appears that the “solution” has been to no longer have a website.

During the autumn of 2024 I repeatedly went at lunch time only to find the doors locked with no explanation. Nothing on the website… not even a handwritten sign on the door. Only the painted sign showing the lunch hours. One evening during that time I pointed out the problem to Erin, a member of the family, who said he would correct the website that evening and put a sign on the door. Neither of these occurred.

In mid-December 2024 we asked about holiday hours and were told the restaurant would be closed on Christmas Eve, on Christmas Day, on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Other than that it would be regular hours. On December 26 I phoned before going for lunch only to be told they were not open for lunch but would be open for dinner..

On December 28 I drove to Phad Thai to order takeout dinner, confident in my decision, only to find a handwritten note saying the restaurant was closed that day.

Despite the high quality of the meals and the pleasant service by the employees, I have to rate Phad Thai lower that I would like to because of the inconsideration shown to customers by randomly closing the restaurant with no updates on a website or on the telephone outgoing message, the inaccurate information on the signage, and the inaccurate information provided to customers.

I still recommend going to Phad Thai to enjoy the food and the service from employees. Just be prepared to be disappointed by finding the restaurant closed when you...
