I have been shopping here at least once a week for about two years. I don't have a costco membership so I can't compare with their prices - but otherwise Galloway's is the cheapest place around for nuts, beans, spices, and flours (alternatives to wheat such as chickpea and coconut).
They brand themselves as a 'natural food' store which is true as long as you stick to the basics and not the candy etc. they sell - I tried a 'crunchy mix' of peanuts, rice crisps and corn nuts they sold. Because they never print ingredients on the package, I just hoped it wouldn't be too bad. After buying it a few times I came across the same mix in another store; lo and behold everything was made with hydrogenated vegetable oil. Kind of spoiled my appetite. Often I have asked if various products contain milk (eg dark chocolate) and they almost never know (ingredients only printed on the box that everything came in). I digress, but I do think they should at least label the common allergens.
Some of the women who work there are very pleasant and sweet, a select few are quite short with customers. I think it has to do with how cramped the store is; having to ask where something is results in a back and forth of "no, higher, to your right, just beside the red stuff" etc etc.
Those are my only two complaints. I have gone time after time and found new items that I never noticed (or maybe they were actually new) or of course, they had exactly the kind of odd spice I needed (eg kaffir lime leaves).
4/5, sure beats...
Read moreWhat exactly is going on here with this place?! The phone answers "Midway Foods" by some guy, the sign and Visa charges say "Goodway" and the other reviews are calling it "Galloways". There are websites that call themselves Galloways that are not. This storefront used to be Galloways as far as I remember but this webpage calls it "Goodway" and the reviewers call it both Goodway and Galloway. I have never in my life seen such a messed up place. What makes me even more suspicious is they have no email, will not give you a contact email, and have no FAX. If you look at their webpage and call that number they do not return voice messages either. I would avoid this place. I was a generational 50 year Galloways buyer, my father then me, starting with the Robson store. We spent thousands of dollars at "Galloways". Avoid this place. Famous Foods on Kingsway and others filled their loss of quality and respect to customer's. There are a bunch of red flags here, look at the reviews, go through them, they do not answer any of them or refute what the one-stars said. That's enough for me Natashia. This place has red flags all over it. No email, different names, no fax, different names etc etc. What is probably even worse is they have cross-contamination-flavors, when different products are stored together in a cabinet/cooler/refrigeration case counter and their scent is absorbed by another. This place is a total write-off, that is of course, if you like good food. This is where our...
Read moreI just left here moments ago and I'm quite disappointed from the unpleasnant service provided. I went to the counter and greeted the three lady staff to get there attention as they were just chatting. Neither one acknowledge, or respond/ greeted me. I then went over to the the trail mix section and the one lady staff with the maroon color curly hair had her back directly towards me. After a few hesitation and patience, I kindly asked for some assistance and immediately with her condescending demeanor say's to me "you have to go to the counter to place an order. I explained I did. There was no reason for that kind of behavior. It was not busy, there was no line up, about two or 3 customers in the store just looking around. Nonetheless My family and I have been coming here and supporting their business for about 18years back when it was called Galloways and after today's encounter I don't know. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not impressed. Why not just help your customers? . I'm not asking you to go above and beyond. Just acknowledge and greet your customer's. I shouldn't have to chase all awhile three employees are standing there...
