After reading many good reviews we decided to hit up this sushi restaurant. I have been to numerous sushi places through out lower mainland and I feel like a have a fair experience eating out. When we got there the first thing we noticed is how small this place was, once inside there was only about 5 tables and 2 were already taken. When you enter you first have to go to the counter and order there and after that seat yourself and also help yourself to tea at the tea counter. The only service you get is when they bring you the food. I found this very unusual compared to other restaurants but didn't think much of it. Decor inside is very dated and old but we were mainly interested in food so that didn't matter much. We ordered the 20 piece combo as well as the specialty mango roll. In the pictures these 2 items look like they could feed 4 people however when we got the food we noticed that the rolls are on the smaller side. While eating our food we found a hair in the roll so we pointed that out and they gladly made us a new roll. Overall the sushi seemed very fresh but everything else was somewhat disappointing. We will not be returning as there are other sushi restaurant near by in New Westminster. I would not recommend this sushi as there are other...
Read moreEDIT: Paradise Sushi has been closed and it now Sushi Farm. The old magic of the restaurant was still visible in the walls during my last visit but certainly not in the food. Now a commodity sushi restaurant on the corner, you can choose whichever is closer.
This was my favorite sushi restaurant... The owners take such great care to provide astoundingly high quality food at reasonable prices in an intimate cafe setting. The freshness of the delicious menu items must be tasted. Go and sit down at one of the tables near the window and you won't be disappointed.
The Summer Tropical Roll is truly perfection. I am continually impressed by the flavours that come together so beautifully. The spicy tuna roll with the slices of sweet mango is amazing and the sprinkle of roe (and what I think is salt & pepper) completes the package. I order one nearly every time I am there. I also rave about the Yam-Yum Roll and the Popeye Roll but there are other wonderful treats to be ordered. Look up above the counter to see the daily specials and try a mini-donburi.
Brown rice is available...
Read moreI love sushi. I love it enough I even love cheap stuff and lower quality stuff. I am a pushover.... Until I tried sushi from here. I exceptionally rarely complain about the quality of sushi but I truly found the sushi I had here unappetizing. Some of the fish had an old fishy taste with a slightly stiff texture which made it very off putting.
I also had the assorted tempura for 11$. It consisted of three pieces of prawns and a bunch of potato and sweet potato slices that was somewhat soggy. The prawn ones were nice and crisp but the others just weren't there. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are the cheapest of the tempura ingredients. Not 11$ at all. Maybe $6 as a fair stretch.
Overall, perhaps it just wasnt a good night for them or was at the end of their fish ordering cycle who knows but I was not impressed. I don't often give reviews below 3 stars but sadly it merited it for me. Not being vindictive or mean spirited, it was honestly...
