Last night I had an EXTREMELY bad experience at our "supposedly" favorite buffet restaurant
Summary AND advice:
Details: It is a long weekend so my family and another family (9 in total) decided to have buffet dinner after a visit in the eastern township. We arrived at 7:52pm and waited about 20 mins (there were about 15 people behind us waiting and we were last to be seated). It was busy but many tables were not cleaned so they said " we have no tables". By the time we sat down, it was about 8:20. We, the adults, took care of getting food for the kids first then realized many items were already gone, namely, cocktail shrimp, ALL sushi, Greek salad, 2/3 of variety of soups, fried scallops. There was only smoked eat and extremely dried Turkey was available at the rotisserie. Other items reached the bottom and honestly, was quite unappealing because lots of people have played in it. So we thought ok, let's wait for another round maybe they will refill later (we pay extra for the weekend, afterall) 15 min have gone by and we saw that they only refilled fried chicken and fewer items remained. Even salads that reached the bottom were not refilled, so are other items (see pictures). Seeing staff starting to take food and sit down to eat, I decided to ask the grill staff. First they told us the kitchen is closed, it was very busy and so they have no more food. Then another said they want to reduce wastage so after 8:30 they dont refill. I got frustrated and asked to speak with a manager, who BS me by first telling me " qhy do you say there aren't much food left?? You see all the food (pointing at leftover pizza), and then giving me the excuse of too busy we ran out of food, etc. My simple and meek request was to have a decent greek salad, made of tomato and cucumber, nothing fancy... (at the end a kitchen staff gave me a personal size format).
When I finally pointed out that no one EVER has never told us the kitchen was closing within 10 mins of us sitting down, he said he "would do something about it on our bill". And of course NOTHING (I later found out his name was Mohammed).
Since day 1 of its opening, lineups were a HUGE issue. But I always thought the food is decent and there is a good variety. Many of my friends and families had bad service/attitude from the staff but I was lucky not to have one that really turned me off. Last night I had my chance. Thank god there were some young and friendly kitchen staff who genuinely showed their willingness to help despite a busy night, and a smiley, compassionate waitress. They made the experience a 1 star...
Read moreI am big fan of this chain and have been going to the St-Jerome location regularly since its opening about 3 years ago so I am extremely excited to have this buffet right next door now!
In order to provide a fair assessment, I waited to write my review after now going 3 times in the past month. I went on opening day September 19 and it was big chaos as you can imagine there are thousands of people lined up, not enough food and every single person working there is a brand new hire so you can't expect the best just yet. I returned a week later for weekday supper and most recently for Sunday brunch and can say this place has the potential to be as great as the other branches. Good food, lots of variety and pricing is very reasonable and frankly unbeattable for what you get.
Yes there are long lines, this is normal considering it's the hottest place in town. What's annoying lately is that they don't allow groups to be seated until everyone is accounted for however as soon as the hype dies down it'll be much smoother for everyone.
TIP, try to go at opening of lunch or supper to beat the lines. So if lunch opens at 11, try to be there for 11 or 11:30.
The food varies based on lunch or dinner and day of the week. I noticed this location has more seafood than St-Jerome and always offers 4 types of sushi versus just 2 at the other location, otherwise everything else is pretty similar. Brunch is my favorite as there are eggs and omelettes made to order, pancakes, french toast, delicious breakfast sausages, bacon and all your other staples like carved meats, chinese food, seafood, pastas, fresh fruits, desserts etc. If you were to go to a regular breakfast restaurant you'd pay the same price and get almost nothing.
Kids under 12 eat free so it's very family friendly and again unbeattable compared to any other restaurants nearby.
For everyone complaining that the service is slow, keep in mind that this restaurant seats 650 people and serves THOUSANDS of people for every meal. Everyone is also new at their job so give them a break. The staff which is comprised of over 100 employees is already working as hard and fast as they can and unfortunately during opening week there was a huge lack of ressources as many workers that were just hired did not show up. I have a family member who worked during the first 2 weeks and the hours were from 9 am to 11 pm at night, sometimes later. It is very hard labor in the kitchen, prepping and cleaning for minimum wage and believe me, they are pumping out as much food as physically possible to serve everyone. All meals are also prepared fresh daily.
The owner of this establishement described it as a food FACTORY, not a restaurant.
Also just a note, the tips are shared amongst all staff, not just the servers, so maybe this will change the way you tip - even if your server wasn't awesome, everyone else working behind the scenes is deserving too.
In all I strongly recommend this place for casual lunches or suppers, group events or parties as there's something to please everyone. You will not find this much selection and...
Read moreI don't understand why his has more than 3 stars... The seating was very well organized and fast, but everything else was awful... I was excited for the food as they were promoting their Mexican dishes a lot and I saw there was a sushi bar..
Oh was I disappointed, the sushi was disgusting, only 3 options and they were all very cheap. I saw 1 Mexican dish and it was quesadillas at the pizza bar, which was the only good food there. Their salmon was gross, their fruits tasted like water, their salad bar is really disgusting.
They put mayo instead of dressing in their freaking Cesar salad??? How hard can they mess up a salad??? The rest of their food was all frozen food, if it isn't overly salty, it's overly cooked or extremely greasy...
The desert bar was the biggest disappointment... They had 4 out of 10 plates just with jello, 3 with pudding and the rest was the same white cake topped with different flavors like coconut and strawberry. They only had 3 kinds of ice cream as well. Even Buffet Vichy has 8 ice cream flavors and I thought this place would be fancier than Buffet Vichy...
For the service, it wasn't anything incredible, not bad either. This is the first time that I left a buffet not feeling extremely full. The whole family was so disappointed...
For the price point, just go to Buffet Vichy or Kanda bar and you'll be better off. And the fact that half the people there were obese and walking around with plates up to the sky really didn't make it more...
