Not at all as good as it once was. Poor quality last few visits but this last order just awful. Picked up food for the family and we usually look forward to enjoying the rich seasoning and warm spices of the Caribbean and savour Ds food. And now not one of us finished our food, plates were pushed away and we were forced to prep another meal. Tasted like something stored in the back of the fridge that hadn't been cooked properly curry lacked flavour, pasty gravy, potatoes had a hard shell and tasted off, so little chickpea coating dhalpuri like it wasn't there, chicken tough and lifeless tasted like it was cooked at the day of its best before date and thrown in as an afterthought. I have been a consistent customer for years and have previously recommended Ds hot shoppe as a must try to many many people had brought friends and colleagues for numerous enjoyable lunches. And now after a few strikes in a row and a hopeful hesitancy this last time, I'm confident...it's off the list. So sorry 😞 previously loved, like the owners, the business. But the food has fallen from grace. $10-20 per person. Calling the review shady. Perhaps spend more time ensuring quality of food. I was hesitant to write this review because of the past experiences being good 1 or two times where the food is just okay doesn't inspire to come back that is true. But this last time absolutely horrible and matches your outrageous statement of consistency. I did not see the owners in the kitchen when I put my order through nor did I see them previously, not likely I am going to the counter to place another order and mention the food has been not great and if it is daily batch cooking, well then you got that batch questIonably wrong wrong wrong and for the sake of your patrons going forward I hope that your next batch...
Read moreHonestly speaking I have loved roti and west Indian food since I was young. Now in saying this I have eaten plenty a roti, doubles and curry plates with paratha. I was disappointed to find out that a roti shop doesn't have paratha unless I order it 24 hrs in advance. Never in my life heard of this at a ROTI shop not everyone likes Dhal! This is not authentic and not normal by any means. If you are to be the shop representing an entire food culture here in Burlington please do better. Train your staff to be able to understand customers inquiries better. Understand the lingo that may arise when customers are looking for specific things from there home land. It's frustrating and offensive when a simple transaction cannot be had. I'm sure the owner will just respond with a abrasive reply to my review but I think we both know what people who "Truly" know the food are saying is true. And to those who would love to really experience the food at its highest standard please take a drive over to Lena's roti and doubles or any Mississauga/toronto shop just so you have something authentic to compare it too!
And of course I get exactly what I expected in terms of a response. Why not take the feedback to do and be better? Why not use it as a means to see what more you can do as an owner to satisfy all your customers? No one is trying to ruin your reputation, feedback is something you open yourself upto as a store front. Stop being so defensive and use the feedback to make yourself better! Also even if my review came from the same house as someone else's we are both entitled to our own opinions. We both have different palettes and standards. We don't agree on lots of things but both felt let down for different reasons by food we were so excited to try from...
