I really want to give this restaurant 5 out of 5 stars because the food was so delicious! However, the server although started off okay, really ruined the experience by the end. Sakai's menu is printed with minimal descriptions and photos. We ordered the sushi and sashimi medium platter which feeds 2 to 4 people. It does not tell you what is included or how many pieces; however we ordered it and it was delicious! Some of the best and fresh sushi I have had! After eating for about 30 minutes or more our server comes to us and says the one roll was not for us (we had already ate half of it). She then said if we had not ate it she would have given it to the proper table (that concerns me as it was on our table for over 30 minutes). We apologized and said that we had no idea it wasnt included in our order as she is the one who brought it to us. She then proceeded to tell us that we had to pay for it. I told her we were not paying for something we did not order and that I understand this was a mistake, however we did not ask for it and we had no way to know it was not a part of our order. Our server then left and came back about 3 minutes later and said since we arent paying for it we dont get to keep it (about half remaining), and she removed the plate from the table. I found this extremely rude. I understand I refused to pay for it but when the error was on the server and not us, we should not have to pay and as someone who has been in customer service for many years, I know how other restaurants and retailers operate and it is not like this. Very disappointed in the service to say the least! But the food was delicious!

The cost is not cheap at all , however you get what you pay for The quality of the food 😋 is hard to beat. Really to be honest it's the best locally They have wonderful cuts of sashimi Sushi 🍣 So why not give this place the 5 starts 🤔 Easy. Here are my complaints and I don't go looking for them but these ones can't be missed and I have enjoyed eating here many times and have a answer to my complaints The quick answer ... cone at lunch time This is the only time I would give them the 5 starts Majority of the time, dinner time is a bit of a headache ... Today is December and I was sitting in a private room at the back near the outside wall. Freezing cold 🥶 and also the door kept opening and nothing but many cold front every time the door opens. And yes the door opens lots and this is due to the the pickup orders. It's 👎 non stop . So many people in and out getting the takeout 🥡 Worst then that is. The people picking up food is disturbing. Based on the restaurant setup. And they prioritize the people with takeout over the people sitting waiting for service. I have informed them of this and they don't care. How is it that if I called in and ordered 🤔 my food, i would get it before the people sitting.... and I have done that For dinner, they always seem short staffed and always waiting at the end for the bill . Always . Such slow 🐌 dinner service Disappointed because the food is so amazing .

A Hidden Gem in Burlington for Sushi Lovers Seeking True Quality If you’re searching for exceptional Japanese cuisine in Burlington, Sakai Japanese and Korean Cuisine is a standout that deserves your attention. This is not your average sushi spot—it’s a rare find where traditional craftsmanship meets modern flair. The sashimi and sushi here are of truly high quality—fresh, expertly cut, and plated with precision. Whether you prefer time-honored nigiri or more creative rolls with a modern twist, every dish is beautifully balanced and deeply satisfying. The chef’s talent shines through in every bite, and it’s clear that the ingredients are chosen with care and intention. What also sets Sakai apart is the warm hospitality. The chef is not only highly skilled but also incredibly friendly and kind—he often engages with guests, offering suggestions or a warm smile that makes the experience feel personal and memorable. This is the kind of restaurant you hope to discover: tucked away, authentic, and quietly excellent. If you’re in the Burlington or Halton region and appreciate high-end Japanese cuisine, Sakai is absolutely worth a visit.

My husband and I have been coming to Sakai for years. We realized we had not been there in a while so we decided to stop for lunch on Saturday August 3rd. First, we were greeted by the waitress from back where they pick up the food and she pointed to where we were suppose to sit. I did not know where she was pointing to, she then came closer and showed us. Not a good start. We tried to get an understanding of the difference between the lunch special bento box and the regular menu bento box which seemed the same to us. The waitress tried to explain but we could not understand the explanation the waitress gave us. In the end we ordered the bento box but not the special. I had the chicken teriyaki which use to be delicious but this time was dry and there was hardly any sauce and what sauce there was I don't think was the same as they use to serve. The couple of pieces of vegetable that came with it were nice. My husband had a pork dish which was again dry and very overcooked, the sauce that was for dipping was good. The two sides that came in the bento box were horrible tasting, we both didn't like them and my husband likes everything. We had ordered tempura veg and shrimp as an appetizer, everything all game at once and I think the oil needed to be changed in the deep fryer as it wasn't great either. They have added a deep fried leaf which was awful, I am sure that cost about 1 cent to serve instead of another piece of vegetable. The miso soup is still good but you only get a half a bowl and the bowl is small. I am very sad that this was our experience as we use to really enjoy having lunch here but we...
