Very disappointed with the Steak and Mushroom pie. Purchased a full size pie and the only thing that was good was the crust. It was definitely light and flaky. The contents however, were not steak or mushrooms. I did not get a single mushroom, the meat was not steak (maybe chuck?) and the onions were overpowering. The overall flavour was very bland and it smelt like it was full of additives rather than fresh. No beef gravy, but rather a strange, grey sauce. First experience, and last.
Reply to the owner's response: It is disappointing that you feel the need to reply the way you did rather than to listen to the review. Perhaps my experience was a one-off and not typical but it was just that, my experience and I am welcome to leave a review about it. You noted "simple spicing" which is perhaps why things were bland to me, and perhaps many of your customers are very happy with your current spicing but I was expecting something different that was more beefy in flavour. I am not sure why you needed to make comments about baking a pie properly as I made no mention of this. I baked the pie to my liking - the picture was simply to show the colour of the contents and the lack of mushrooms. A better way to ensure future customers might be to show some care...
ย ย ย Read moreI went there after a friend recommended this local pie place, upon getting there i was greeted by a store clerk who was very friendly and offered me a list of their goods as entering the store was not an option due to COVID-19. Long story short the "Beef, Stilton and Stout" pie is a disgrace of a pie and should be taken off their menu....I am grateful for every plateful, however this resembled and smelt foul a bit like dog food. It contained a strange liquidy starchy mush with small bits of meat and shaved mushrooms no sign of stilton cheese, I watched my family reluctantly eat what i had previously presented as a delicious local pie but to my dismay it was very unappetizing and saddening especially since their pies are EXPENSIVE (19$ for one 9 inch pie) I was so excited to try their pies but I doubt I can vouch for this...
ย ย ย Read moreI have been buying the Mushroom, Leek and Chicken pie (singles) for a few weeks at MariLu's. Once a week.
We like them a lot, a quick easy meal with a couple of veg. Maybe a roasted potato.
I am a pie crust freak, and I think the crust is good! As good as my mother's back in the day, no, but better than any other commercial pie I have bought. Most other ones have too little fat. There has to be a correct ratio of flour to fat, and this one has it. Proper oven temp wud count, too.
I tried the curry one, good seasoning, but I wud prefer a slightly thicker sauce.
My husband liked the plain butter tarts, but being of an Eastern European background, I found them too sweet. I frankly find most NAmerican desserts too sweet!
The service is just fine, but it cud be a lot depends on the customer's manner. on entering any...
