At first I was impressed with there being a new healthier food store around and with the product offerings, and I'm still pleased about that. But there are several major issues here.
The first is that the bulk food section is not labelled with the ingredients. If it's organic black beans, no problem, we know what is in it. But when it is foods containing more than one ingredient such as snack food, well, what does that mean? I'm supposed to just trust that I will not have any issues with any of the ingredients?
Many if not most people begin shopping at alternative groceries due to food sensitivities, allergies and concerns with ingredients such as seed oils, sugars, GMO's etc. But I was not able to view the ingredients because they are not simply posted on the bins as they are at Bulk Barn, for instance, and the employee I spoke with said they did "not know" where to find them, though assured me they were "somewhere" in the store.
Another issue that has been problematic is that when items are shelved with improper product labelling, where the lower price being advertised is not the price charged at the till, they "do not honour" the Canadian guidelines that most stores do, where they will charge you the price you were baited with, instead of the higher price. Those guidelines serve a function to prevent false advertising so retailers cannot "bait and switch" the customer as a matter of practice. Many people are so rushed that they do not carefully examine their bill, or the prices being rung up at the till, and some sellers can and DO take advantage of this fact. Goodness me is dishonourable in this regard, in my opinion.
Thirdly, not enough staff to help customers find the products they are looking for. There was no one at all in the supplement section when I was there and I spent at least 20 minutes combing shelves looking for what I needed.
And lastly, price gouging. When I first shopped there two years ago, prices were competitive. I've since noticed prices creeping up where I can get better deals at regular groceries on items such as Natura soy milk and So Good coconut ice cream sandwich. Can we ever have good hearted retailers who are satisfied to make a very decent living while upholding organic values and serving their community without letting corporate rot ruin everything? My fingers are crossed for a...
Read moreSo I love a lot of things about this grocery store, but the x-factor for me was recently phased out. For years I've been coming to this location off and on, and for the past year I've been an almost daily customer of their weighted food bar. It was disappointing enough when a few years back they changed from self-serve system with more menu options to behind the counter with only a few items....
But now they've switched entirely from weighted to a pre-portioned combo/meal system.
I personally think this system doesn't make sense for the customer and leads to more food waste for the store, more confusion in ordering.... and in this case, has lost me as a daily customer because the options/portions more frequently dont suit my needs. So rather than coming here anymore and chancing it , I've been going to other places..
I really don't imagine anyone enjoys paying for food they aren't going to eat, and that's what was great about coming to Goodness Me and selecting exactly what you wanted! Now, if I want meatballs, i have to get 6 of them apparently.
I can totally empathize with the store if the numbers weren't adding up for you guys to be profitable the other way around, but I think you'd at least have been better off to increase the price per gram than changing the whole system and losing customers.
But hey, if it works out better for you like this Im happy for you, wishing you guys success cuz I do really think it's a great store/management, and the smoothies and bone broth are still worth the occasional visit for me! I just won't be shopping here nearly...
Read moreI was at the store this Saturday and I was very disappointed to see several people (+5) either not wearing a mask or wearing it under their nose, after asking them they simply laugh and continue about their business touching products and leaning over produce.
After conversing with 1 staff member I was told they "could not" enforce it.
After seeing a few more people with no mask or face shield, I asked another staff member and she clearly said "it is not in the constitution" to which I replied, "there is a Pandemic and there is a bylaw that REQUIRES people to wear a mask and keep social distancing."
Third time I asked I was asked if they wanted them to "go ask", NO, it is not my job to ask employees to ask people at a grocery store to wear a mask, it is the store's job to enforce this in order to keep others safe.
I understand some people have medical reasons NOT to wear a mask, but I seriously doubt 5 people had "medical conditions" or reason to wear the mask incorrectly, this is unacceptable.
Since the pandemic started I have visited several grocery stores and business and I have never seen a situation like this, ever.
I cannot go to my home and get my family members sick due to a negligent business not adapting to our current situation.
I contacted Halton public Covid line and reported this business as not enforcing the law.
As for the store, I used to enjoy visiting, having lunch and interacting with the staff, I do not feel safe to go there anymore, and their response was very...
