(Edited: what I said previously still stands, but if you ordered ahead of time/reserve, the wait will be largely negated and all you get is good tasting food.)
Ajuker Fried Chicken is a decent restaurant, if only by the mediocre standard in the Vancouver dining world. TL;DR: The fried chicken is marginally better than your run of the mill KFC fried chicken. But could potentially suffer a ludicrous amount of wait time, if you got caught in some rush hour.
To be honest, for the pricing and the quality/quantity of the food alone, I'd probably give it 4 stars, but unfortunately, I'd have to knock off at least 1 star because half an hour wait time is just unacceptable. For what it's worth, here is a brief description of my experiencing ordering take-out today:
I arrived around 6:09, ordered a 1/2 sweet & spicy + 1/2 soy flavour fried chicken and was immediately told that it would take 25 minutes, thankfully I'm not too busy at the time so I'd figured I'd give it a go first before calling the verdict on this small shack ( there's some picture on Google map, the place is kind of small, and poorly decorated, especially at the front). About 24 minutes in, one of the waiter comes over and told me it'll be another 2 minutes and could I pay now (which is kind of smart on his part because I'm seriously considering walking out by minute 25, but once money changes hand I'm committed). By the time I walked out of the restaurant it was already 6:39. So problem number one is long ticket time.
Now let's talk about the food. The fried chicken is crunchy and flavourful with the sauce; there is no doubt it my mind that Ajuker's Fried chicken beats KFC's fried chicken by a landslide. Keep in mind that unless you pick the boneless item, there will be bone fragment in the fried chicken so do be careful not to ingest them.
Lastly, or potential diner this is a minor concern, but if the owner is reading this post, I'd strongly suggest you adding a English sign out front ,or a cartoon chicken sign, or anything that indicates that you're a restaurant too all those who doesn't read Koreans, which would be most people out there because we're not in Korea. And consider taking down some of those musky drapes up front, part of the reason why I didn't check the place out despite living in the area for over a year now is because your store looks like a run down deserted drug den instead of a restaurant. Please let some light in, it'll scare away the vampire and make the place more welcoming.
So to sum it up, good food, but long, long wait time; ordered it online ahead of time or avoid rush hour around meal time. Or remember to bring a book/kindle/fully...
Read moreWent here with my son at about 7:30 on a Friday night. The restraint was fairly busy. We sat down at one at the booths. The cushions were very comfortable and bedded our bottoms quite nicely. The tables were clean and looked like they had been cleaned recently. We sat and decided what we were going to order for a couple of minute and we decided on the 1/2 Fried chicken 1/2 Soy chicken. We also ordered the kimchi pancake. The food came really fast. It came in only about 5 minutes. When it came, the waiter laid it on our table and we dug in! The chicken was nice and crispy. The flavor on the soy chicken was salty and a little sweet. The stickiness made it very nice. The fried chicken was very good also. The crisp made my mouth water when I bit into it. The temperature on the chicken was nice and hot but not too hot that it would burn your tongue and it would hurt for a couple of days. That would be a bummer. Me and my son found out that there was a shaker of pepper salt on the table. We figured that it would make the chicken taste better. And it did. It gave a even more saltier taste and a Little peppery taste. Now time to review that kimchi pancake. The kimchi pancake came to the table about 5 minute after the chicken did. The pancake was on a steaming hot dish that would give you 3rd degreee burns to the touch. We took our first bite and it tasted like squid but not as much kimchi as we thought it would. This was a little disappointing but it still tasted good. We figured that if you dip the pancake in the soy sauce sesame mixture that they had supplied us with, it would make it taste better. And it did. It gave a nice saucy salty flavor with a little sesame oil flavor. me and my son figured that if we put the chicken on the hot dish that the pancake was on, it would make the chicken much crispier. And it did. The service was good. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. When we were done, the got the leftovers in a box to take home. We went to play the bill, and noticed there was candy. Me and my son figured that if we took more candy each, we would have more candy, and we did. Thank you for listening to my review. Make sure to smash the...
Read moreI’ve heard good things about this place and decided to try it out. What a waste of money and time. First the chicken came we were surprised of how small the orders were specially our combo (we ordered sweet and spicy / original combo). After eating just a few pieces we were even more disappointed to realize that half of what we saw was breading and not the chicken itself. The first bite of sweet and spicy chicken was so cold and the sauce was too cold around the chicken. Such a bad experience in my mouth it felt like I took my one day old chicken out of fridge and failed to reheat it properly. I gave rest of my chicken to my husband cause it was that bad. Of course when you have so much breading on the chicken it would soak all the oil in. It was super OILY 🤮 I can’t explain my disappointment enough. The green onion chicken came with a sauce that was full of sugar, so I asked for more soy sauce to add to the sauce, but the waiter was like we have to make it ahead of time. I have to ask the kitchen and she told us that she has to charge us extra for a little bit of soy sauce. At this point I was so frustrated and I asked her “ so what would you do for other dishes that needs soy sauce?” At this point she realized her mistake and explained that she thought we want their special soy sauce flavour that they use for the fried chicken. She did apologize and brought some soy sauce after. But I was so frustrated and angry at this point. 😤 On top of everything we got sick after because the chicken was tooo OILY. even though I tried to pick the extra breading and not eat it. The 2 stars are just for the cleanliness of the restaurant and we liked the fact that chickens were juicy inside. Will not go back and not recommend it to anyone. At least not for...
