(Initial review from October) I go here maybe once every two months? I’d go more often, but there are reasons ahaha. Their food is pretty nice, but some other things bring up complaints.
First the positives: The makchang and bibimbap is really good. The side dishes here are quite nice too. The inside of the restaurant is clean and the tables are nicely sized. Staff can be really nice and attentive, most of them at least.
A few negatives There’s no reservations. You write your name on a board and wait outside. Sometimes your name gets erased and you’re not called. They’re also not shy about kicking you out as early as 3-5 minutes after your time limit is up so I don’t recommend the place for special occasions. They really are keeping a close watch on you. They’ll forget what you ordered but you can bet they won’t forget when you came in. The bbq meat is average, I’d personally go next door to Arisu for that. The service depends strongly on the day. Some of the staff are really sweet, but some others give off the impression that they wished people wouldn’t show up at the restaurant anymore.
Below is a more personal experience complaint lol. They’re t really really strict with the restrictions currently. Good from a health perspective, but be ready to be asked to present your (physical)bank and mortgage statements or your immigration papers if you happen to be an immigrant whose name on the health registry is a bit different from your drivers license. I feel kinda bad for being a Karen in this review about it, but usually when the middle and last names match most places are more accommodating. Adding a revision update: It wasn’t a bad day for the particular girl mentioned in the above complaint. Another family member went yesterday with the correct ID and everything, opted to use a picture of ID, was told off in a quite rude manner. Upon entering they brought the wrong food and forgot about the table for extended periods of time.
Final thoughts, get the...
Read moreReservation made at 7pm for 6 people and a toddler. A waiter called at 7:05 and ask if we are there yet. While he was on the phone with the person who made the reservation, I was standing in the store already waiting for someone to assist me. Yes we were 5 mins late because of traffic but you don’t have to be rude about it. I sat down while other family members were parking outside.
The waiter told me that they only hold the table for 5 minutes (grace period) and reminded me that there is a time limit dining time of 1 hour and 30 mins which i respected it because i was aware they are busy. Once everyone was sat down and ALREADY looking at the menu. The same waiter came AGAIN and reminded us the time limit.
This is our second visit and we had a good experience on the first visit. We live far and drove all the way from East Vancouver to try this place because it’s good. Okay.. we understand the 5 minutes grace period, but 5 minutes late was our lost time and we understand it.
I assume this is a fast paced restaurant but it is not a fast food restaurant where we can order right away. At least give us some time to discuss what to eat on the menu…we definitely felt the pressure!
If you are a regular customer and know what to order. 1.5 hours is okay if people know the portions and what to expect. We were afraid to order the second round because of the time limit.
So we ended up didn’t order much because we were rush to place the order and went home hungry.
The menu was not clear. Set menu on regular price comes with rice. Any daily special set does not come with rice. They didn’t tell us until we ask. The tablet order was convenient but needs improvement to add more description on the items.
Food was delicious, but we didn’t enjoy as much as we went on the first time. I don’t think I will come back again as there are many other choices in the area.
Also, we didn’t have time to take pictures of the food. We ended up dined in for 1 hour only and...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of this restaurant for over five years, but after today’s experience, I’ve decided that I will no longer dine here.
First, the service started off poorly. It seemed the internet system wasn’t working properly, and because of that, the person who appeared to be the manager kept us waiting at the entrance for quite some time with a visibly unpleasant expression. This already made us feel uncomfortable.
When we finally ordered by pointing directly at the “Family Meal Combo” we confirmed the portion size clearly. However, a much more expensive set was served instead. When we mentioned the mistake, the staff insisted that we had ordered the Family BBQ Combo — as if the error was ours — rather than acknowledging their own mistake. She also said that the confusion was due to their internet not working as we couldn't put in the order ourselves on the ipad and they had to take the order manually, even though we only ordered a single combo item. We had no choice but to eat what was served and they did absolutely nothing on their part to make amends or offer solutions.
Throughout the rest of the meal and even at checkout, only another server offered a simple apology not the one who made mistake. As a result, we ended up spending over $70 more than we had planned with the foods that we did not want.
It was a special occasion, and we tried to remain positive, but the experience was disappointing. Spending $265 for a single meal at a restaurant we’ve enjoyed for years, only to be treated this way, was deeply regrettable. A lack of accountability and poor customer service have turned what used to be one of our favorite places into a place we can no...
