I really enjoyed my experience. The Cantonese-speaking owners have a really well-run operation for a small team. The cafe is well-maintained and offers a vintage vibe. I stopped in for breakfast and my coffee was constantly refilled, condiments were brought without needing to be requested, food was reasonably priced, quality was so-so with the hash browns.
What really impressed me was the community vibe - there were a lot of local regulars right at opening - one of their regulars helped set up the patio set outside and they were catching up with their friends for a regular meet up. The lady who was serving everyone remembered multiple orders of her regulars and was very warm and welcoming to everyone in both English & Cantonese. She never stopped moving - getting coffee prepared, taking orders, delivering orders, checking in, gossiping with her regulars, coordinating with her husband in the kitchen or manning the till. The husband chef was constantly cooking and also managed to step out for a quick chat with some regulars while grabbing some coffee.
Came for the food but stayed for the positive vibes to kick off a busy weekend. ...
Read moreOh what a unique little hole in the wall. I had heard about this place a few months ago and have wanted to go ever since, so finally my birthday came and my partner and i went for a late lunch/early dinner. I had been craving Salisbury steak, but ended up going with bacon and eggs with an orange ice cream float. I just can't pass up bacon and eggs over easy from a greasy spoon diner. My partner had the Salisbury steak and a coke ice cream float. The food was absolutely amazing, it was just the right amount of greasy, it was perfect. And having an ice cream float brought back memories of my childhood, so long ago.
The timeless decor, frozen since the 70's, so cool to see, also reminded me of my childhood. Not that I'm a child of the 70's, but I did grow up in the 80's so I certainly remember diners and restaurants with decor from that era. Everything seemed original, which is unheard of nowadays. I highly recommend this place, though the hours are a little wonky, only being open until 5pm on most days, and closed on Sundays. W/we definitely plan multiple return trips, must try the roast beef and roast turkey, and of course i need my...
Read moreParkCrest Diner is an old (emphasis on old) school diner located in a strip mall in Burnaby. Walking in, all of the vibes point to like early 70's decor... from the earthy colpur tones to the seats and booths.
Ordered the Bacon and Cheddar Hash Brown Stack ($17.95) - the shredded hash browns were not too crispy but there was a runny yolk underneath everything. The thick toast was soft (probably because the slices were so thick) - I would have liked if it had a more toasty texture. The fruit cup that it came with was just some grapes, apple slices, and orange slices.
The Salisbury Steak ($15.95) had a thick patty and tasted meaty. There were onions and mushrooms as well as 2 scoops of mashed potatoes and mixed niblet veggies. This dish seems just like the kind of dish you make at home (right down to the white corningware plate).
The Bowl of Clam Chowder ($5.95) had a lot of diced potatoes inside but there was not much flavor to it.
Hot Chocolate ($2.95) is basic.
Nothing really special food wise but if you're looking for that old school diner vibe then that is exactly what you get. Three Asian aunties working here were...
