Want high-quality sushi in North Burnaby? Come to Sushi U!

Sadly, I've eaten here more than a dozen times, after it underwent new management, and I've never written a review until now. Not because I succumbed to food coma to the delicious sushi, but because I truly love sushi and wanted to make sure this wasn't a beginner's-luck-type restaurant.

I guess after 12 visits they deserve a review, hehe.

Since my long stay in Japan a couple years ago finding quality sushi has been tough. A lot of so-called sushi restaurants put too much emphasize on quantity than quality by making maki rolls gigantic or adding too many different sauces on top of the food to hinder the true quality of the sashimi or sushi ingredients that, in my honest opinion, defeats the purpose of sushi.

I'm here weekly. And always for the sushi. It's amazing, and I can't get enough it. I'll probably find myself there again today as I follow my nose and my heart for good sushi.

I've had the pleasure of eating in and eating out, and the quality of the sushi and the service of the staff is always consistent. And even having been there many, many times I always seem to get something for free, such as an appetizer or a few additional pieces of sashimi, maki rolls or nigiri pieces that I didn't even order. I thought I ordered everything on the menu until they bring out these super delicious samples. #DeepFriendIceCream OMG!

Although this small sushi restaurant is tucked away in the Northern Burnaby alcove, it never will cease to amaze me.

Find your way to Sushi U. I highly recommend it and will be certain that your experience there will be just as great as mine.

New Reply to the owner: Hi, it seems that someone hide the real situation from you. If you don’t want to face the truth, you can ignore the comments just like your waitress;) We called her in very good attitude both times, and she came to our table looked impatient. She didn’t explain why she didn’t answer us. But we didn’t blame her at all. Then, we make the order polite. After we ordered, she started to blame us, her attitude turned to really bad and said “ Who said excuse me? You don’t need to say that, you know? I am the only waitress here. Who said that?”Then, she turn to leave. At that situation, as long as an ordinary people will understand that she didn’t welcome us. So we left of course. I go out for food not for unpleasant. I don’t expect you respect your customer anymore. More disappointed now.

————————————————————— Disappointed. I went there yesterday. We said “hello” to the waitress and she just ignored us. At the beginning, I thought she didn’t hear us, but When she came to our table, I was really scared by her fierce look. She’s mad at us for calling her twice, and I don’t even know what happened. The most awful experience since I came to Canada.

Everyone has their own difficulties in life, if you can’t help others, at least don’t hurt others. Don’t pass on the negative emotions to your customer.

Really miss the old owner who is warm-hearted...

Came here for the first time for a friend's birthday party. One of the staff overheard that it was her birthday and they served us a sushi pizza (which is a really weird idea for a dish but absolutely delicious) for free with small pile of rice with a candle in it! Since then I persuaded my family to come and try it out and man, we reaaally love this place. The food is very high quality, and while the sushi is slightly smaller than other popular sushi places, every single bite is sooo good. My whole family really loves sushi and we can be a little picky about the quality of our sushi, but we have never had any complaints about the food here. Our family has been coming here for three or four years now, and while we don't come as often as we'd like because the price is a little higher than we budget for, we usually come for birthday dinners 💕 The staff are all SO nice and they make us feel like they genuinely care about their customers. They also serve ice cream tempura and it's my favorite special desert. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves...
