As delicious as I remember it from living in Portland. Fast service. Great food!
The only problem with this location is that it is incredibly loud inside. Between the commercial exhaust fans and the staff yelling out orders that are ready, it is deafening in there. I can't imagine dining in! We actually struggled to place our order as we couldn't even hear what the staff were saying to us.
The main problem is that the inside has been completely constructed of hard, acoustically reflective surfaces. We observed that the louder the staff yelled out the completed order numbers, the harder it was to understand them as it just echoed more!
If I was the owner, I'd definitely want remedy the acoustics. Of course none of that affects the quality of the food, which was delicious! It does, however, make for a visit less pleasant than it should be. â------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE after 2nd visit:
Returned to Popeyes and ordered the new chicken nuggets as a combo. Also ordered popcorn shrimp and a strawberry pie. Everything was absolutely delicious. "Nuggets" were much too good to even be called nuggets! They were closer to smaller versions of "Tenders" or strips. Highly recommended.
I don't normally eat or enjoy popcorn shrimp but did enjoy Popeye's version. The pie was delicious as well.
A few small problems though...
No fork was provided with our meal so we had no way to eat the coleslaw! The dips that were provided with the chicken were not the ones that we had ordered. The cocktail sauce for the popcorn shrimp wasn't provided with our meal. Im assuming that it was supposed to be?
Assuming these were all staff errors and hopefully ownership will address these. Not having a way to eat our salad was obviously a huge disappointment.
Looking forward to trying the chicken next time.
UPDATE - 3rd visit
Definitely seems to be a problem getting condiments, forks, plates, etc packed with one's meal at this location.
Cashiers were energetic and all about up selling. That's ok, that's their job. Person packing the food was super slow, highly unmotivated, and really looked sad, like they would rather be...
Read moreI honestly don't know what the big deal is with this place being so wildly popular. I don't mean to shame or dissuade anyone from liking it or trying it because we like what we like and there's nothing wrong with that.
The place itself was extremely busy but the staff were very efficient and helpful amid all the chaos. Parking at this location is horrible and just driving by it I thought it was a poor site to put a business that is going to be packed to the gills with people wanting their Popeyes fix.
I don't imagine local residents are going to be happy with all the customers having to park on the residential streets as the whole area is congested with customer traffic.
We ordered chicken, fries, gravy and biscuits as well as chicken sandwiches in order to get a sense of what the rage is about. The sandwich was good but nothing memorable. The chicken itself was very salty. I think this has to do with the way they prepare it so that's by design I suppose.
But I really didn't enjoy it all that much. The coating was really great as it was very crunchy. But I found the chicken to be a bit on the dry side. The next day, it was very dry and not all that tasty (even though I had saved the remaining chicken in an air tight container)
Not really a fan of the spicey fries as they were again really salty and thought the special gravy didn't really add anything to the experience. My buddy really like the biscuits but I thought they were dry and coated with a super thin layer of what seemed like an overly salty butter.
I can hear your thoughts right now ... 'maybe this guy doesn't like fast food or he's just extra sensitive to salt'. I don't think that's the case ... in fact my cardiologist tells me my artaries are lined with take-out grease and my blood type is Ragu.
Salt isn't a substitute for flavour. It can enhance and bring it out in all kinds of foods but loses its intended purpose when that's all you can taste.
Hopefully everyone will go easy on the hatred but this was my experience. I only sampled a small part of the menu so maybe I just need to try more. I have to admit that if someone suggests we order from Popeyes I wouldn't object but I don't think I'll be bringing it up as a...

Popeyes Review: A Crispy, Flavorful Feast
Popeyes has built a strong reputation for its Louisiana-style fried chicken, buttery biscuits, and bold Cajun flavors. Founded in 1972, it has grown into a global brand, known especially for its crispy, well-seasoned chicken and iconic chicken sandwich.
Food Quality & Taste Popeyesâ fried chicken is its crown jewel, boasting a signature crunchy coating with a deep, flavorful seasoning. Unlike some competitors, their breading isnât overly greasy, and it delivers a satisfying crunch with every bite. The chicken itself is tender and juicy, whether you opt for classic or spicy. Their famous chicken sandwichâfeaturing a thick, crispy filet, pickles, and a brioche bunâhas been a fan favorite since its launch, even sparking the âchicken sandwich warsâ of 2019.
Beyond chicken, Popeyes offers Cajun-inspired sides like red beans and rice, mac & cheese, and buttery, flaky biscuits. Their fries, seasoned with a unique blend of spices, are a standout.
Service & Atmosphere Service quality varies by location, with some restaurants known for long wait times, especially during peak hours. However, the food is consistently fresh and hot. The atmosphere is fast-food casual, with a simple but inviting setup.
Value for Money Popeyes is reasonably priced for the portion sizes and quality. Their combo meals offer a good balance of affordability and flavor, making it a great option for a satisfying fast-food meal.
Final Verdict Popeyes delivers on its promise of bold, flavorful fried chicken with a Louisiana twist. While service can be inconsistent, the food remains a standout in the fast-food industry. If youâre craving crispy, well-seasoned chicken with a touch of Southern comfort, Popeyes is a solid choice.
