We've been coming to Punk Rock Pastries since pre-pandemic and it has only gotten better and better. I've used it for anatomic hearts for an interactive theatre show (chocolate mousse inside, they were delicious!), countless lammingtons, donuts, filled cookies and whoopie pies over the years, and more recently, our wedding cake.
Hollie helped us come up with the most beautiful spooky/elegant design, and was so incredibly generous with her time coming up with different designs based on our ideas. The cake looked amazing (and had edible candles on it that you could actually light!) and had three different layers that were different and delcious flavour combinations (orange with cinnamon icing, cookie crunch with salted caramel icing, and earl grey with strawberry icing) and each one was delicious!
The service is always fast and friendly, the atmosphere is very fun (although definitely more adult friendly than kid friendly, the warnings are the door are there for a reason), and the baked goods are delicious. Portion sizes are large, but they keep in the fridge for seconds and then you just get to eat it...
Read moreRespect towards the owner and all workers there, I think it's a pretty cool place and definitely something different. However I felt prices were high and taste for everything was not great. You would think the donuts have different flavors but they do not, they taste like everything you can get at timmies.
The cupcakes are over the top and gross. For example the double cookie one, we had to scrape off all the cream/icing because it had little to no taste and was plain bad. The cupcake part just tasted like a timmies muffin and didn't match the rest of it at all. The "Caramel slice" was basically a Nanaimo bar and had really nothing to do with caramel so I'm a little confused with that. And the cookies were also a meh despite all the awesome designs they have.
In summary I'm a little disappointed I spent over 30$ to basically get sick and not like anything. While someone else may like their things, I feel the shop might be slightly overrated just because of the wow...
Read morePicked up a Too Good To Go bag from here, and also bought a vegan chocolate raspberry cupcake. The donuts were nice! It's the same donut base, but they have different toppings/flavors. We received a good variety of 6 different flavours. Our favourite was the pineapple coconut! The icing/frosting is on the sweeter side, so best for those with a sweet tooth! The cupcake was also a nice treat. While the chocolate flavour was strong, if was very one-note and I would've loved if it had a pinch of salt for an enhanced flavour. The cupcake was $8, but it was a larger cupcake and vegan, so I thought the price was appropriate. Not an everyday spend for me, though!
Had read good things about the bakery, so was glad to have stopped in! I'm hoping in the future, the bakery will sell vegan and gluten-free desserts (they have a selection of vegan or gluten-free treats, but not combined)....
