Sweet Puffin — Restaurant in Burnaby

I pass by here all the time and I see students study here. This spot has been been previously replaced twice by the same concept so maybe they are doing something right.

I bought their cream puffs and everyday they only have 2 flavors - vanilla and matcha, and 1 changing mystery flavor. Today was strawberry. The matcha was really good but the strawberry was lacking in flavor. Because the choix pastry is flavorless, it relies on a strong cream flavor. I wish they post their flavors online somewhere but I haven't found their website or socials yet. I would totally come back if they have cool flavors. One thing I'd say is that there was too much cream so when I opened the box it was a little messy.

They had a special of buy 5 cream puffs and get a free special tea. It was an oolong milk tea. Not bad but the tea flavor wasnt very strong. If they can improve on that, it would be really delicious.

Other reviews say that these cream puffs are made using the same beard Papa's recipe. We found that these cream puffs were similar but different. These cream puff shells were much larger and also more airy. We got two flavors. The vanilla custard and the matcha custard. The vanilla custard was delicious and did taste like the Beard Papa's recipe. The matcha custard lacked matcha flavor and was a dull green color. When we bit into the cream puff, it was so airy that the cream puff started to fall apart. There was sufficient custard in our vanilla cream puff and it can be quite messy if you do not have the right technique.

i had the chocolate eclair and the green tea filling (i did not know that we could customize the INSIDE FILLING AS WELL?!!!!) and it was extremely delicious. the chocolate was so crunchy and the inside was superrrr loaded with the filling it was literally oozing it. the green tea cream wasn’t too sweet or overpowering at all, and the matcha powder on top was also a cool nice touch (although i did almost choke on it). the eclair is quite large and a tiny bit hard to eat because it oozes out and it’s kinda big ??? (but that’s not really a complaint). this is also a really great place to study because it’s got lots of natural lighting and there are plenty of chairs, tables,...
