So sad to have to post this because mercato's makes my favourite sfoglia cake and we always order our cakes for our occasions from them but unfortunately after the past events we will not be using them again for any cakes.

We placed an order for a large sfoglia baby shower cake. We requested for Nutella strawberry sfoglia and had the owner try to tell us this was not possible as they do not do this when we had just ordered the exact same cake twice within the last 2 months . It's strange as the owner he would not know what goes on with orders coming through his business. After much convincing he wrote down the order. We had not yet revealed the gender and our babyshower theme was white and gold and had said this over and over again that we DO NOT WANT ANY COLOURS On the cake only white and gold . We specifically said DO NOT PUT anything baby related or pink and blue as we would just like it to be simple white gold to go with the theme. The owner confirmed this order and advised he heard what we had said and not to worry.

When we got there Sunday morning to pick up the cake before the baby shower we had asked to see the cake to be sure everything was ok. When the lady opened the box we were surprised to see all the pink and blue writing and decorations on the cake as we had specifically said we do not want that.

They told us they would fix the cake and had us waiting almost over 30 minutes when we had a hall full of people waiting for us to arrive!

Not once did the owner come out to apologize, only once we said we were late and would not be paying for the cake until after then did the owner decide to come out and offer to deliver the cake. A little late for that as we had been waiting approx 30 minutes and were already late and now you offer to deliver! Not one apologie or even an offer of a discount to make up for the mistake, stress, and trouble.

Once we Finally got the cake they did a good job and fixing what they could making it look presentable thankfully.

When it came time for us at the babyshower to cut the cake to our surprise it was not Sfoglia as we had ordered it was a sponge cake with a layer of strawberry and cream and a layer of some sort of chocolate cream with some sort of hazelnut flavour Not even the flavours they got right!

My father had gone back after as we were at the babyshower and the owner did not even seem to care he said mistakes happen which is fine as they do but as a business owner it is your job to rectify the situation and make sure your customers are happy!

We will not be ordering anything else...

My recent visit to Mercato left me thoroughly impressed with their delightful array of food items, particularly their amazing cakes and irresistible cannoli.

I placed an order for 3 cakes for a large party I was hosting. The order was not filled correctly - I requested chocolate filled with Nutella and the cake that I received had some kind of off white filling instead of Nutella. I also ordered a vanilla cake with purple rosettes and pink mini rosettes as highlights with silver decoration. The cake I received was pink with purple mini rosettes and no silver accents - which completely did not go with the party theme. I did not have time to adjust this at the time, and the party was off. The actual decoration of the cakes were beautifully done (minus the color and accent mistake), however the flavour of the icing was not - it tasted like coloured butter with no sugar, very bland and it left a film in your mouth after eating it. The cake itself was light, but also lacking flavour. I would not place another order from this bakery.
