A1 Burrito — Restaurant in Calgary

A1 used to be a high quality and value spot but it has gone severely downhill lately.

I previously had the Birria quesadilla and suffered a case of mild food poisoning. Brushed this off as a case of getting unlucky with the meal and decided to get food again a month later while enjoying a beer at Ol’ Beautiful.

This more recent visit will be my last. I ordered the pollo tinga burrito, and found a not one, but two chicken bones in my burrito. When I went in to let the staff know that I found bones in my food, they were dismissive at first and said they can’t do anything as I ate half of my burrito already. I had to explain to them that I found a second, bigger piece after trying to be polite and pushing through the first piece.

They offered a replacement burrito, though I did not want a replacement and preferred a refund, which they could not do as well. The staff seemed more frustrated that I came in with a complaint about my food quality than trying to rectify it.

It’s unclear if there is new ownership or management that have decided to diminish the food quality and continue to raise the prices. Could not recommend this place any less and would suggest grabbing a slice at Inglewood Pizza or bring your own food from literally anywhere else.

Edit: As it turns out, other reviewers have encountered the same issue so more case for management to look into...

A1Burrito at Ol' Beautiful Brewery in Inglewood is a true gem! This Mexican joint deserves a solid five-star rating. The atmosphere is laid-back, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming.

I highly recommend starting with their vegetarian and gluten-free chips and dips. They're absolutely delicious and set the tone for a fantastic dining experience.

When it comes to the main course, the Birria and carnitas burritos are my go-to choices. If you're feeling adventurous, their tacos offer a variety of flavors to explore. And for all the cheese lovers out there, their quesadillas are a must-try.

What sets A1Burrito apart is their dedication to catering to different dietary preferences. My vegan wife is a fan of their vegan birria burrito, which she absolutely loves.

To quench your thirst, they have a great selection of drinks, including Jarritos, Coca-Cola, and the personal favorite—Squirt, a refreshing drink similar to Fresca but even better. Plus all the beers and other drinks Ol’ beautiful has to offer.

Stopped in at Ol' Beautiful to try a couple of their new beers and decided to try an A1 Burrito for the first time. Staff José was very friendly and explained their products to me, especially the fact that their salsas and pretty much everything else was homemade. He recommended the carnitas burrito with salsa verde (made with tomatillos). It was the best burrito I've ever had. It was loaded up! So good I ate a second burrito. This time the Birria which is a beef version. It was incredible as well. They were very filling, so I should have waited until another visit to try a second one, but my brain and stomach were not communicating .

I'd recommend giving this place a try next time you're in the area. I see they are also on DoorDash if you're looking to have it delivered. Highly recommended. Great food and great...
