Cold Garden Beverage Company — Restaurant in Calgary

I have always enjoyed the beer at cold garden especially cake face. I have never particularly enjoyed going to their tap room as prior to covid it always smelt like dog, there was no place to sit and when you could find a place the furniture likely had fleas; but I enjoyed the beer and would come get beer to take home and occasionally come to the tap room. Now it is very unlikely I will be back. I have a 7 week old child and my husband and I took her to the bird sanctuary when we decided it would be a treat for us to get some cans of cake face and try the spa sour. I proceeded to purchase two 6 packs of cake face and a meowler of the spa sour. The website states that the order will be ready within a half hour of ordering. This all sounded great and I placed the order. I got to cold garden an hour and 15 minutes later, and by this time my daughter had woken up and was not in a happy mood to say the least, but if I was in and out quick everything should be ok as my husband could entertain her for a few minutes. When I went inside I was informed that first of all they were sold out of the cans. If they are sold out why could I buy them online?!?! I asked what would happen now, would they just keep my money? Of course not she said but she didn't know how to refund it and walked away. This was not really ideal especially when I was trying to be quick so I asked another staff member who was standing there if I could get the rest of my order. She informed me no she couldn't help me since the now missing staff member was assisting me. WOW! For a company that prides itself on customer service that was no service! She finally came back with another member of staff who informed me that I would have to email the owner to get the $10 dollars that was owed to me. Are you kidding me?!?! As if I have time for that! I told him I have a screaming child in the car and quite frankly the $10 isn't worth it. He told me he was the shift supervisor and he got it because he has a 15 year old and a 14 year old. I'm not sure what that had to do with anything but cold garden basically ripped me off. I don't understand why he couldn't just give me $10 in cash and an apology about not living up to the promise on their website to save the situation. Oh well I guess my money doesn't count as much as the people sitting on the "patio" AKA some benches in a parking lot. Good luck cold garden with staff like that and keeping customers money but not providing a product you will need it! Definitely a unique brewery - the service I had here was awesome and I saw servers bussing and cleaning up often. I found the menu very hard to read although I appreciated the aesthetic style of it, it just made ordering stressful.

Before coming here I didn’t realize they allowed dogs inside and I thought it was cute for a second and then it was immediately unpleasant. It smelt, for lack of a better word, “musty” and it was hard to navigate the space while trying to not step on a number of dogs laying in the walkways. Dogs were barking, babies were crying, there is so much art and imagery everywhere it was definitely a sensory overload for me and it wasn’t super busy when I went. I can’t imagine what it sounds like on a Friday or Saturday night. I don’t think I’d come back here as I felt the beer was alright but not worth drinking if that’s the environment I have to drink it in. I’ve been to cold garden once before a year ago on a date with Mr Executive. Today I was looking for a new place to noodle and finish writing my book. It came to me to come back to a place since it is so sunny and welcoming and nothing but good memories. I decided a light crisp beer would set the tone to writing. The Service was fantastic. The vibe so relaxed and upbeat. After 2 hrs I was surprised to look up and see this place was packed. So many different walks of life. I love seeing people on dates, hanging out with friends. Also to see a lot of smiles It is sure helps me set the tone of the my book. I will definitely be back. I’m a very happy noodle. I highly recommend this place and will be back with my noodles crew.
