My girlfriend and I have been looking for a bar to get great food at in this area for a while now, and we have definitely found it with Blackbird.
Somehow, everything we have had has been almost perfect when it comes to food quality, portion size and value for money.
The Kentucky chicken burger is fantastic, with great flavour, a good size burger patty and good seasoning/sauce. The Nachos are a breath of fresh air, as every other place we have had them from lately skimp on both toppings and size. Not so with Blackbird. The portion size is generous and they actually understand that layering toppings on nachos is a positive thing. Fantastic.
The chicken tenders were nicely battered, and tasted great as well. The fish and chips were also a cut above a lot of other places in the area. The Blackbird burger is also a great burger that I was not disappointed with at all. The only thing that has not been five stars in terms of food for me was the donair pizza. It tastes good enough, but there's so much lettuce on it. It's not quite to my taste, but the crust and cheese were good. The meat wasn't overly generous, but it is understandable at the price it comes in at. Overall still a good pizza, just not as amazing as everything else we've had on their menu.
The atmosphere is fairly inviting, although some of the seats are somewhat cramped, but I understand that they want to fit as many people into a place as possible.
The service is where things have not been amazing. For the most part, the waitresses were nice, but I have found them to be not all that attentive at times and more interested in talking up certain customers than being attentive to everyone around them. Some attitudes have been merely okay, not overly happy at all, just enough to get by and not memorable as a positive experience.
Overall, the food here is fantastic, the portion size is generous and the value is on point. Blackbird is now our go-to for a delicious meal on a...
Read moreThis is a very modern style bar with dark colors and dim lighting. I am not a huge fan of the atmosphere as it was much to dark and did nothing to capture that close to home social pub feeling and does nothing to encourage socialization between its patrons. As is typical for these chique modern bars there is no entertainment to speak of. No pool table video games dart boards or anything to actually have fun. I'd love to see live music in a venue close to home but I couldn't see any spot in this place where this would work.
The beer selection was good with lots of options and locally craft brweed beer. This is the only redeeming quality of this place and I'm hoping wing nights and beer specials will be good.
The food we ordered was terrible. First of all they were missing several items such as the beef jerkey, greased popcorn, and mashed potatoes. This is very poor planning for a bar In this neighborhood on their opening weekend. When addressing this with our server they clearly did not see this as an issue. I had the sausage dog with the roasted red pepper soup. The dog itself didn't taste to bad but it's design was sloppy and poor and made eating a chore. The roasted red pepper soup was very bitter and inedible due to this. My friend ordered the chicken tacos which were clearly frozen for way to long and literally tasted like ashes in my mouth.
We voiced all of our complaints to the server at the bar who apologized but made no effort to go above and beyond. This meal should have been discounted for how poorly it was made.
I will go back but not for several months. There is very limited options for pubs in our area so I'm really hoping they can pull their socks up...
Read moreFirst time at this pub, the atmosphere is lovely! I like the restroom too! Our server was absolutely wonderful! Honestly, I would give her 5 ⭐️. We were there last night for wings. OMG, it could not have been worse. We ordered salt and pepper, those were yummy. We ordered buffalo ranch & Carolina honey mustard, I never expected what arrived. It seems hot sauce was added to ranch dressing and applied in EXCESS to the wings. The Carolina honey mustard was literally wings slathed in copious amounts of honey mustard. I don't think even people who love mustard (me) would use THAT MUCH on a chicken wing!! Add to it that the wings arrived barely warm...so we got to watch the ranch dressing congeale in front of us. My date assures me he ordered buffalo ranch in the past and it was not like it was last night. Also, when going for wings, a nice veggie platter would be good. Not simply carrots and celery. Many pubs (near to your pub) have better wings than what I experienced last night & veggies available. My date assures we won't be back despite the...
