Blanco Cantina — Restaurant in Calgary

This is the best Blanco in the city. However, when you compare it to some other hidden gems in this city; it has room to grow. Mainly, Blanco offers a best in Calgary Tequila menu with many imported bottles that are rare to come by in Western Canada. That said, you pay a hefty penny for the tequila pours, I tried mine on the rocks with a hint of lime. On these grounds, it is an absolute must to come during happy hour from 2-5 pm, where the tequila goes half off and you can get a standard pour of high quality sauce. Margaritas were great, done well and proper. Kinda like a nice steak but think in this case TEQUILA. The tacos here are pretty great with 4 to 5 hot sauces added. Here, I would like to see an ultra spicy option though moving forward for us hot sauce addicts. You know the kind that makes your pores sweat instantly. The food was pretty good depending on the order. For instance, the crispy tilapia tacos were to die for; the chicken ones were to dry; and the beef was spot on. Keep this in mind for your order! The beer selection was great offering Mexican imports and some domestic beer taps. On that note, I went to order a Texas lone star brew and they were completely out of stock which was a bit of a let down as I had a Texas buddy talking about the state beer and I was pretty excited to give it a try. This is a great restaurant atmosphere and I love eating here for a night out with friends ,but it is not really a place for date night in my opinion. This is an easy 4/5 star review for me! Blanco’s food is okay (tacos always seem to come out lukewarm during happy hour). Decent menu selection for food and their margs are good.

Last night we had pretty poor service at this location (our server left almost halfway through our time here, and we spent 30-45 minutes trying to make eye contact with her prior to that so that we could at least get some water or drinks). Eventually someone came over and apologized and stated our server wasn’t feeling well and had to leave. We were finally able to get our drinks and place our food order. It seems they forgot about the food when they came back and asked if we would be ordering any food. To which we replied, “we did.” Another 45 min or so goes by, for approx 3 tacos per person. They forgot to ring in a takeout order someone in our party had placed to take home, and stated “it only takes five minutes to make the tacos.” Unsure why we waited around an hour to receive ours if they only take five minutes; but it seems they just kept forgetting about our table. At this point, our reso for 7 seemed pretty pointless as I was late leaving for other commitments - largely due to the service taking over 2 hours total to get our food and pay.

Additionally, water was never topped up. Really spent most of our time trying to flag someone (literally anyone) down instead of having a good time.

I had an unpleasant dinner experience yesterday. We went to this place several times, probably once a month and I am definitely a regular repeat customer. It was the Tuesday Taco all day special night on Oct 4, 2022 and the restaurant was pretty booked. We ordered Taco and waited more than 40 min. Asked the server to check why the order is being so late and explained that since the kitchen mixed up our order caused the delay. I checked the other table who arrived later than us already enjoyed eating Taco with drinks. We were getting started to get frustrated. Finally we got our Taco after waiting 1 hour 20 min. Food was absolutely cold, it seemed like it was sitting on the table for more than a hour and shrimp and meat was also very dried. My daughter wanted to order shrimp classic taco more and placed more orders and arrived warm shrimp taco in 10 min which is reasonable other than bringing cold meat taco after waiting 1 hour 20 min. Already we were very upset, my family left the table and waited by myself to pay the bill. Waited more than 10 min, nobody came and asked what I needed. Another table server found me and brought the bill instead of my server bringing it to me. I didn't give them a tip at all since the server didn't do anything and the food quality was also horrible.
