My 1st experience with Nepalese Dining
The dining room design is simple, bright & neat, it gives us a very good impression for a 1st visit in a Nepalese restaurant.
After some recommendations from the friendly waitress We ordered the Must-try “Jhol momo”(Nepalese dumplings) with chicken stuffing (takes 20-25 minutes) $14.3 Waited for about half an hour The chicken dumplings finally arrived our table, there are 10 pieces in total (each one is a generous portion) To my own opinion, it is totally different from the Chinese style xiaolongtangbao regardless of the appearance, taste or texture. I will call these 2 kinds of snack as cousins’ relationship😂
E found there are many kinds of Momos in the menu, the only difference between the “Momo” and the “Jhol Momo” is the extra broth at the bottom of the dish, but I prefer not to have the broth and leave the momos alone! Next time I will try the regular version momo to make sure my thought is right😅 Momo tastes average with not much "surprises” to us. However, if you haven’t tried it, it’s worth giving it a try.
2 main courses Lamb Shack with Rice $29.3 The lamb piece is a good choice The meat is not dry at all and very tasty. Nepalese rice has a slender body and is relatively hard, after mixing it with the thick brown sauce It’s a good match 👍
2nd main meal is the famous “Butter chicken” which is a must-try every time we dine at the East Indian restaurants
Himalayan Butter Chicken $20.3 In addition to the long grain rice, it’s also including few slices of naan bread As this is a Himalayan Butter Chicken, It tastes completely different from the traditional East Indian version Butter Chicken dish, with the addition of tomato sauce which add some sweet and sour to the flavour of this dish. This helps a lot for the appetite especially in a hot day like today. And it is the most surprising part of this meal😋
Regarding to the main courses, the 2 kinds of protein with two different sauces. Each has its own merits and it is worth to recommend👍
I ordered a cup of Chai Tea(recommended by google review) as my hot drink to accompany with the meal today. This cup of Nepalese milk tea which is some kind of fragrant tea along with some sweetness It helps to set off the strong taste in my mouth after meal. The total amount of this lunch is around $72.77 & we paid 15% tips Total around $84 It works out to $42 per person. So It’s expensive for a simple lunch in Calgary. But, it...
Read moreWords can’t thoroughly do justice to my first-time visiting Calgary Momo House. There was a party of flavours in my mouth, and I am definitely going back soon to try other dishes offered on their menu. Everything is handcrafted in the restaurant, and all the dishes were presented meticulously. So, if you haven’t been, run! Reservations are recommended for dinner service.
It was the first time my friends and I visited, and our server (chef’s wife) was amazing and attentive. She recommended the most popular items for us to try.
Each order of momo came in 10pcs, filling of your choice (chicken, goat, veggies) and cooked in the fashion and flavours of your liking, and chilli and tomato chutney for dipping.
Jhol Momo (Chicken) - $12.90: Fan favourite, our server told us this one reminded her of home, and it’s amongst Nepalese’s choice. It’s steamed and embedded in a delicate house-made broth. It had nutty flavours that reminded me of a light peanut sauce.
Chili Momo (Veggie) - $10.50: This one packed good heat, I love spicy, but this one was fiery. Fried momos, then wok-fried together with veggies and chilli sauce. The veggies and sauce had a slight tang which reminded me of the veggies in sweet & sour pork. Yum.
Tandoori Momo (Chicken) - $12.50: This one had mild heat and oven-baked Tandoori style, nice light smoke from the oven, another fan favourite.
Chicken chow mein (Hakka style) - $14.50: Not your conventional chow mein. Slight heat, chicken, chow mein and veggies cooked in a chilli coriander sauce. Noodles were done perfectly, not soggy nor overly oily/saucy.
Nepalese Ghee Chai – This one reminded me of bulletproof coffee, so if that’s not your jam, you might not like it. Ghee is traditionally added to keep the chai hotter for longer in the cold temperatures and be more satiating and add more calories and energy for the frigid temperatures in the mountains.
Fresh mango crème cake - $5.90: Traditionally made with yak milk, but this one is made with good ol’ Alberta cow’s milk. Pieces of mango embedded between fresh cream and egg-less sponge cake that’s light and moist.
Timur Crème Brulee - $5.90: Star of the night. We were lucky we got the last order. The custard was silky, and the sugar was perfectly caramelized. Timur is another name of the famous Szechuan pepper, and it’s infused in the custard giving it a peppery and refreshing take on a...

The star of the show? Momo, those delectable dumplings that have captured hearts across the globe. Calgary Momo House takes pride in serving some of the best momos in town. Here’s what stood out during my visit:
Quality Takes Time: The momos here are perfectly steamed, a testament to the care and attention put into their preparation. Each bite reveals a burst of flavors—savory fillings encased in delicate dough. Whether you choose chicken, mutton (goat), or vegetable momos, you’re in for a treat. Woman-Led Business: Calgary Momo House is led by inspiring women who have crafted a menu that celebrates authenticity. Their dedication shines through in every plate they serve. Room for Improvement: When ordering takeout, I noticed that nothing was labeled. It would be helpful to know which sauce accompanies each momo or even the specific type of momo. Despite this, the taste was delightful, leaving me eager to reorder. Portion Size and Variety: The prices are more than fair, considering the generous portion sizes. Plus, the menu offers a wide selection, ensuring there’s something for everyone. In summary, if you’re craving Nepalese cuisine, Calgary Momo House will hit the spot.
