Writing this review after visiting the Cityscape Madras Cafe location at least 5 times over the past two months, lunch time on Saturdays or Sundays. The food has been impeccable. Masala Uttapam, Masala Dosa, Ghee Masala Dosa, Idlis, Raita, Kesari Halwa, South Indian Coffee, Chai are among the items that we have tried in various combinations and has always been served to perfection. There has always been a very friendly woman who has greeted us and taken good care of service every time. We have visited around noon every time and the service has been prompt and the restaurant is always clean and fresh. The washrooms are also well maintained (once, one was out of order but it was fine the next time). In past year, when visiting many restaurants, it's irritating when at several restaurants we've been pestered to post a Google review for them right after the first visit. To their credit, at this Madras Cafe location, no one has ever asked us to post a review. After multiple visits and consistently good food they have earned this review. We don't give glowing reviews easily. Hope they keep up their friendly services combined with delicious South Indian food served to perfection. ps: For people who only order such great food as take-out or delivery food, they are missing the true joy of eating it piping hot straight out of...
Read moreI had very high opinion about their 52nd street location. That place location and ambience were not ideal but taste was good. I was excited about this location since it is the same complex as in Sanja Punjab grocery. I do not make conclusion in one visit.
Takeout : Veg Briyani and Fish 65. I would say fish 65 was authentic and tasted very good. The veg briyani was made to satisfy north indian tastebuds and it appeared to me was made with some store bought briyani mix. However, the condiment called chalna was very authentic and tasted good
Takeout : Any south indian restaurant should make very good tasting vadai or vada. Totally disappointed. It was hard and tasteless and the coconut chutney was tasteless too.
Dine-In : Parotta/Mutton chukka, Masala Dosai and faluda. Parotta looks authetic. Mutton chukka was horrible. Tough "old" mutton pieces and no flavor. Dosai was bad too. Sambar and Cocunut chutney were tasteless. Faluda was okish.
Let them settle down, I will try one more time and the giveup on them if they do not change
Edit 1 : After 8 months I went there for a takeout. They have gone worse from bad
The chicken veppudu was made with stale chicken. The chilly fish was soaked in soy sauce and tomato ketchup.
They spoiled the name of Madras. For me Madras is an emotion. I will never...

I visited this restaurant for the first time and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. After waiting for a couple of minutes as the server switched tables, she seated us at the front where the restaurant was packed. We were standing by the entrance for a while, and a family arrived after us and stood near us. Once we sat down and started reviewing the menu, the server returned and informed us that she had made a mistake. She asked us to get up and wait another 5-7 minutes, as she had forgotten to seat the family on the waiting list.
While I understand mistakes happen, this was a very uncomfortable situation, especially since my mother is handicapped and had already sat down. Asking us to get up and stand again after we were settled was inconsiderate. It wasn’t like we were the ones who caused the delay, and a simple apology to the family standing could’ve easily resolved the issue without inconveniencing us. We ended up leaving without even trying the food, feeling completely disrespected.
Very disappointing, and unfortunately, we won't...
