Great South Indian food. I have tried many South Indian restaurants and despite of requesting spicy I didnt find one that would do it so if you love spicy these guys can make your taste buds lit up. And for those who cant tolerate spice level they can make it taste authentic South Indian taste. Their menu options were great I have attached pictures of entire menu for you to check out price and other details. Staff was prompt and courteous. The interior design is what this restaurant need to improve to give it great ambience I have reviewed many popular restaurants and compared to most of them, this location needs to work on ambience. But over all great menu, great taste. I really enjoyed the food. We ordered Spicy haydrabadi dosa, gobi 65 and schewzan rice/ noodles and we all had fun. I have attached pictures and videos of this restaurant. There are two washrooms well kempt and clean and contemporary. Dinning area felt a bit short in tables but they are opening another location. Ample free parking. Please check out attached videos & images and follow me for more detailed reviews.

We recently visited Madras Cafe in Calgary, and our overall experience was somewhere in the middle — not outstanding, but not disappointing either. The food itself was okay; flavors were fine, but nothing that really stood out or made us want to rave about it. Portion sizes were reasonable, and the menu had a fair selection, but we felt the dishes could have been a bit more flavorful to truly shine. What really impressed us, though, was the service. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout our visit. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, they made sure we felt welcome and taken care of, which added a lot of positivity to the experience. Another big highlight was the cleanliness of the place especially the washrooms. They were exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which isn’t something you can say about every restaurant, and it definitely left a good impression. Overall, Madras Cafe offered a pleasant visit. While the food might not have wowed us, the amazing service and spotless washrooms certainly made the experience better.

Madras Cafe in Calgary has truly become one of my favorite dining spots whenever I find myself in the city. I’ve visited many times, and every single experience has been outstanding, which speaks volumes about the consistency of their food and service. The dosas, in particular, have always been a highlight, with their perfect crispiness and incredible flavor that never disappoint. The chutney and sambhar, too, are always on point—fresh, aromatic, and full of the authentic taste that I crave. Each visit feels like a warm welcome, and the atmosphere of the restaurant adds to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the meal. Neha, the staff member who often serves me, always goes above and beyond to ensure a fantastic experience. Her friendly and professional demeanor makes every visit feel special, and she adds a personal touch that makes the meal even more memorable. Whether it’s a quick meal or a leisurely dinner, Madras Cafe never fails to impress me, and I always leave feeling satisfied, knowing I’ll return the next time I’m in Calgary.

Writing this review after visiting the Cityscape Madras Cafe location at least 5 times over the past two months, lunch time on Saturdays or Sundays. The food has been impeccable. Masala Uttapam, Masala Dosa, Ghee Masala Dosa, Idlis, Raita, Kesari Halwa, South Indian Coffee, Chai are among the items that we have tried in various combinations and has always been served to perfection. There has always been a very friendly woman who has greeted us and taken good care of service every time. We have visited around noon every time and the service has been prompt and the restaurant is always clean and fresh. The washrooms are also well maintained (once, one was out of order but it was fine the next time). In past year, when visiting many restaurants, it's irritating when at several restaurants we've been pestered to post a Google review for them right after the first visit. To their credit, at this Madras Cafe location, no one has ever asked us to post a review. After multiple visits and consistently good food they have earned this review. We don't give glowing reviews easily. Hope they keep up their friendly services combined with delicious South Indian food served to perfection. ps: For people who only order such great food as take-out or delivery food, they are missing the true joy of eating it piping hot straight out of...

I had very high opinion about their 52nd street location. That place location and ambience were not ideal but taste was good. I was excited about this location since it is the same complex as in Sanja Punjab grocery. I do not make conclusion in one visit.

Takeout : Veg Briyani and Fish 65. I would say fish 65 was authentic and tasted very good. The veg briyani was made to satisfy north indian tastebuds and it appeared to me was made with some store bought briyani mix. However, the condiment called chalna was very authentic and tasted good

Takeout : Any south indian restaurant should make very good tasting vadai or vada. Totally disappointed. It was hard and tasteless and the coconut chutney was tasteless too.

Dine-In : Parotta/Mutton chukka, Masala Dosai and faluda. Parotta looks authetic. Mutton chukka was horrible. Tough "old" mutton pieces and no flavor. Dosai was bad too. Sambar and Cocunut chutney were tasteless. Faluda was okish.

Let them settle down, I will try one more time and the giveup on them if they do not change

Edit 1 : After 8 months I went there for a takeout. They have gone worse from bad

The chicken veppudu was made with stale chicken. The chilly fish was soaked in soy sauce and tomato ketchup.

They spoiled the name of Madras. For me Madras is an emotion. I will never...

Disappointing Experience

I visited this restaurant for the first time and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. After waiting for a couple of minutes as the server switched tables, she seated us at the front where the restaurant was packed. We were standing by the entrance for a while, and a family arrived after us and stood near us. Once we sat down and started reviewing the menu, the server returned and informed us that she had made a mistake. She asked us to get up and wait another 5-7 minutes, as she had forgotten to seat the family on the waiting list.

While I understand mistakes happen, this was a very uncomfortable situation, especially since my mother is handicapped and had already sat down. Asking us to get up and stand again after we were settled was inconsiderate. It wasn’t like we were the ones who caused the delay, and a simple apology to the family standing could’ve easily resolved the issue without inconveniencing us. We ended up leaving without even trying the food, feeling completely disrespected.

Very disappointing, and unfortunately, we won't...
