Reviews of Curtis Creek Japanese Cuisine

At first glance, Curtis Creek is an unusual name for a Japanese restaurant—it sounds more like a rustic fishing lodge than a place for sushi. And in a way, the theme follows suit. The décor leans towards a fly-fishing aesthetic, which, while unique, doesn’t quite match the traditional Japanese cuisine they serve. A touch more Japanese influence in the atmosphere would elevate the dining experience.

That said, the food itself is far from unconventional. The menu, though limited, is exceptional, with each dish crafted with precision and authenticity. A must-try is the soybean sushi, which stood out as a clear chef’s special, showcasing both technique and deep respect for Japanese flavors.

What truly set this place apart, however, was the service—unbelievably good. Every interaction felt thoughtful and attentive, making the experience feel personal and well cared for. It’s rare to see such dedication to hospitality, and Curtis Creek absolutely nailed it.

The only reason this review isn’t a full 5/5 is that many menu items weren’t available during my visit, which was a bit frustrating. But given that it’s a new restaurant, I’ll go easy on them. Once they have the full menu up and running, I’ll be back—and ready to update this to a 5-star review.

For those looking for exceptional, traditional Japanese food in Calgary, Curtis Creek is already making a strong impression. Keep an eye on this spot—it has the potential to become a true staple in the city’s Japanese...

Hello everyone, I just came home from visiting this restaurant. Wow!! Quality of foods, ambiance, services are definitely five stars.

I felt so relaxed like my home. It’s a cozy and familiar place like your auntie or uncle’s house/ shop. Owner/Chef Tetsu who is an avid fly fisher who dearly loves Alberta brings the best of Alberta on the plate.

He hand picked all the ingredients from local producers to create tasty and healthy foods. And drinks that accompany with his dishes are also from Alberta and near future, he will have Sake from Northern Japan where he and his wife came from. For example, he chose his draft beer from local craft brewery called Old Man’s River which provides smooth and flavourful beer from south of Alberta and beef from a ranch in Southern Alberta. And most of all, his creation of Japanese dishes are so authentic and down to earth. They are not typical sushi restaurants menus but still satisfy your pallets for Japanese foods. Yes, Curtis Creek Japanese Cuisine is not a typical Sushi restaurant but Japanese cuisine restaurant can offer more than Sushi!

Tetsu always comes out from the kitchen and greet his customer with appreciations and he enjoys conversations with his customers.

So, I suggest you one day, just open the door and say “Kon Nichi Wa” “Hello” to Tetsu and his great team. You will be treated like his family with warm smiles and he will make sure you leave the restaurant feeling so fulfilled...

I had an amazing experience at this hidden gem! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a cozy, almost secret getaway feel. The owner mentioned plans to add more decorative touches, but even now, you can feel the thoughtful design and unique character of the space. The stylish tableware also enhances the presentation and taste of the food.

The food itself was outstanding. They offer both classic Japanese dishes and creative sushi rolls, and the Curtis Roll was something I definitely want to have again! The beef tongue was incredibly tender. What truly sets this place apart is the owner’s commitment to quality—no MSG is used in any of the dishes, ensuring a healthier and more natural dining experience.

The owner brings years of culinary experience from Japan, delivering authentic Japanese flavors with exceptional quality. You can truly taste the dedication and expertise in every dish.

Not only was the food fantastic, but the service was also top-notch. The staff was incredibly attentive and provided warm, thoughtful service that made the experience even more enjoyable.

They also have two carefully selected craft beers, both of which were smooth and easy to drink. I already can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu!

Highly...

I came here for lunch because of a recommendation from a good friend, she told me the food is very authentic Japanese and delicious. She was right about this restaurant. The owner Tetsu, cares a lot about the food he serves and he aims for balanced flavours, and using good local ingredients. I recommend the Curtis roll, it’s a well balanced sushi roll with hints of ginger which made it very refreshing and a bit spicy. However, everything we ordered was very good from the ebimayo, beef tongue, nigiri, and yuzu sake cocktail, and everything was made with care and thought. I liked how the owner added his own personal taste to the menu and throughout the entire establishment with the theme of fly fishing as his passion. I look forward to coming back and trying even more dishes. Me and my fiancé are excited for our next visit. We hope other people in the city can appreciate Tetsu’s food.
