This was my first time ordering from the restaurant. And I'm sorry to say I won't be back.
I had time on my hands while waiting for a ride from the building across the street, so I ordered takeout. I ordered Goat Karahi, okra masala, tandoori Roti, and plain naan.
First, the positives: all of the items were tasty. The bread items were standard fare, and I have no complaints there. The okra masala was at least medium spicy if not a little warmer, though the owners say they make it mild because many of their customers aren't used to really hot flavour. I'm certainly glad mine was not as fiery as one I had recently from another location, being more edible and enjoyable. I would give the okra 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now to the negatives: I am a fan of goat dishes and have ordered from many locations around town. This was the worst by far in terms of quality. What I thought was a large lump of meat turned out to be a 3 cm cube of bone , accompanied by a number of other smaller pieces of bone and lots of gristle. It was the worst quality goat meat. I have been served by any restaurant so far. That's too bad, because the flavour was actually quite enjoyable. But for the price, certainly far from being the cheapest in town, I was frankly expecting better. Honestly, I could not give this more than one star. ⭐️
Perhaps some of their other dishes are a better quality, but I don't think I'm willing to risk it. I have had consistently good results from a couple of my other favourite restaurants. I cannot say from my single experience whether they were just having a bad day or whether this is representative of the quality of their goat dishes.
One more point on the plus side, their main door on 14th St. is easily ♿️ wheelchair accessible, although staff may not be able to see you from inside the restaurant and there is no buzzer or automatic door opener. You may have to go around the side, kitchen door and yell...
Read moreI initially had a disappointing experience with my order, but the restaurant reached out to make things right, and I really appreciate that level of accountability and care.
I had ordered butter chicken, chicken korma, garlic naan, and tandoori roti. While the food was hot and fresh when I picked it up, I was charged for a tandoori roti that was not included in the bag, and the 10 percent discount advertised for phone-in pick-up orders was not applied. I also found a small bone fragment in my butter chicken, which took away from the enjoyment of an otherwise delicious dish.
After leaving feedback, the restaurant personally contacted me. They explained that the cashier was new and unaware of the discount policy, and they sincerely apologized for the missing item and the bone fragment. As a gesture of goodwill, they offered me a free butter chicken and roti at my convenience, which I felt was a generous and thoughtful response.
The gravies for both curries were absolutely delicious. They were rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The garlic naan was a standout, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. While the chicken pieces could have been trimmed a bit better, the overall taste and quality of the sauces were truly excellent.
The restaurant was clean, and the environment felt welcoming even though I was just picking up. TVs were playing Hindi music videos, and I noticed staff actively cleaning, which left a good impression.
Mistakes happen, but it’s how a business handles them that really shows their values. The fact that the restaurant took the time to apologize and offer a resolution makes me feel confident about returning. With that kind of follow-through, I’m happy to raise my rating and look forward to giving them...
Read moreUpdate 2021.03.21: I really missed this place! I’m breastfeeding, so heavy/greasy food always gave me trouble. Otherwise this would have been our No. 1 takeout/dining option. Yesterday I couldn’t resist and ordered from here again. Oh my... we had to order again today! We liked everything we ordered (Tandoori, Hakka and curry menu). BUT the curries here are to die for! We both feel strong sense of happiness whenever we have a spoonful of curry. This will be the place when we take our in-town/out-of-town friends to try in the future. Maybe they will grow into Indian food lovers like us. I strongly recommend anyone to try this place. It will be a loss for locals if the restaurant goes out of business.
Thank you Taste of India, for making amazing food every time! We wish you the best! Stay strong through the difficult times!
Original posted Dec 2020: Unbelievably delicious food! We found this restaurants through Uber Eats. Every dish we ordered tasted great. Our favourites are lamb curry, goat curry and fish curry. The garlic prawn was a little bit too spicy for us, but tasted great. The chicken tikki masala had quite a bit of onion and bell pepper chunks, so the dish didn’t earn the highest rating with us. We will definitely be back and...
