So where do I begin... Lets start with the one positive I have, the food tasted good. That's all I got because the ownership/management of this restaurant was absurd. They handled themselves VERY POORLY.
My mother who is in town from Halifax asked me to take her out to a Mexican Restaurant and I said sure Mom! I live downtown and my fiancé said lets try this place out.
We get to this restaurant and it looks cool and we are all super excited and Hungry! Once in we were greeted nicely taken to our table and everything was going smooth.
We all order our food, I got the Steak Burrito, my fiancé got Enchiladas and my mother got Veggie Burrito. I have been to many Mexican restaurants in Canada and the US also Mexico itself and I have NEVER seen Zucchini and Carrots in a burrito.... It doesn't even say this is in the veggie burrito on the menu it just said veggies. My mom thought it would be just a bean burrito with rice and cheese maybe some peppers. Our mistake for not asking more questions about it, but how were we to know about it if it was our FIRST TIME there. Look, honest mistakes happen...
How this was handled was amateurish at best. The waitress said we can get you another one however this one you ordered you will still have to pay for this... we can pack it for you if you like. That's when we my mother was confused as why would we pay for this it was honestly a mistake if I knew this was in it I would not order.
The manager who looked like she quite frankly could give a __ came up and started pointing at the menu and talking in a condescending tone saying well didn't your read the menu and couldn't you have told the waitress how you wanted your Burrito. Then she said I will check with the Kitchen to see what I can do and NEVER returned. Felt like she was to scared to address the situation professionally.
Look I love small business and my family owns one too and I know we all have to make a buck and meet our margins. BUT when you charge nearly $18 for a Burrito plate I'm sure the margin is pretty good and you can afford to replace a Burrito.
The FUNNIEST thing is if you would have handled this properly my tip would have been much bigger and this review could be VERY DIFFERENT.
Long story short, put more effort into taking care of your customers. We did not drive to your restaurant to order something wrong on purpose....not one has time for that.
I Paid for the Burrito my mother didn't like or eat! And I Still left a 15% tip.
You Guys Should Do Something About This. Just an overall atrocious experience from your "management and ownership"
You can do a lot better...
Read moreAuthentic Mexican food and amazing staff! (12/13/2019 7pm)
Me and my wife had a long day and decided to eat in this little gem near Sunalta area and it was one of the best authentic food experience we had.
Nachos - we ordered nachos with a side of guacamole. It has a big serving, maybe good for 3-4 people. I love the nacho chips cause they made it from scratch and not just any other ‘restaurant-style chips’. I never fell in love with a nachos without meat before, but now I’m starting to like nachos with refried beans, fresh jalapeños, pick de Gallo and cheese.
Taco al Pastor - tasty grilled pork with pineapple on top, served on two soft corn tortillas (3 tacos) with rice and beans on the side. Their Al Pastor was very delicious with perfect balance of sweet, salty and sweetness from the pineapple piece. You should add some hot sauce on top to compliment the taste.
Enchiladas (chicken) - three soft tortillas with chicken meat, cheese and red sauce on top. Also served with rice and beans on the side. Very tasty and really worth it if you have a big appetite!
We’ve been to Mexico and fell in love with their cuisine, especially street foods and grew up eating Spanish food. Honestly, La Casa Latina has the best authentic Latin inspired dishes you can ever find in the city.
**I also want to clarify with regards to the previous one-star comment that the management and floor staff did an AMAZING JOB of handling their issues. We heard every negative things they said to the waitress and Mexican food. First of, it’s clear on the menu all the ingredients included in a ‘veggie burrito’. You can’t expect the restaurant to give you a refund because YOU mistakenly read the ingredients (which is why they put it on the menu on the first place).
To all of you reading this review, all of their staff, especially the waitresses, are very sweet, cheerful and willing to help you with the best they can. I cannot believe some people focuses on the negative stuff and will try to pull down small businesses like this.
We will go back for sure and will spread the awesome experience we had to...
Read moreI was hoping that the third time would be better because there was an event. First time service was poor we ordered fish the fish was over cooked and so dry and the patacones / fried plantains were stale and hard as a rock. I talked to the server she gave me a new portion of plantains but nothing about the fish and she said they couldn’t do anything about it. I paid and I left. Second time we went again because I friend wanted to try Latin/mexican food we ordered seafood soup but literally the seafood was non existent. Same situation with the server they didn’t do anything. I was like that is it. I’m done with this place. But here comes the third time just because my friend was part of the event at Casa Latina we paid the cover. Service was terrible, poor, rushed, we ordered something to share nachos and empanadas and it was ok. We were just drinking non alcoholic drinks water/pop but the server insisted that we order something to drink one of friend said fine I’ll get a drink but the rest didn’t. On that note before we ordered anything we explicitly asked the server that we are going to need separate bills and she said yeah that’s fine. After the rest of us were not drinking server comeback and said since you are not drinking here is the bill and it was only one bill. And I said to her we asked to split the bill please the server/the owner said we cannot split the bill because I gotta pay for every transaction that I made. So one of you pay the whole thing and then figure it out between you guys. Obviously no tip was left and sorry but that was my last time. I try to support Latino restaurants as much as I can but with that attitude no thank...
