Calgary’s downtown area is a bustling hub of activity, known for its mix of modern skyscrapers, historic buildings, and vibrant cultural scene. Early in the day, downtown Calgary presents a unique atmosphere, characterized by the calm before the rush of the business day begins. Here’s a glimpse into the early morning scene in Calgary’s downtown:
Peaceful Mornings
In the early hours, downtown Calgary is relatively quiet, with fewer people on the streets. This is a stark contrast to the midday hustle and bustle. The early light casts a warm glow on the buildings, making it an excellent time for photography enthusiasts to capture the serene beauty of the cityscape.
Morning Commute
As the morning progresses, you start to see more people heading to work. Public transportation, like the CTrain, begins to fill up with commuters. Cyclists and pedestrians also take advantage of the less crowded streets to make their way to their offices.
Coffee Culture
Calgary’s downtown boasts numerous coffee shops and cafés, which become a focal point in the early morning. Places like Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters and Analog Coffee see a steady stream of customers grabbing their morning brew. These cafés not only serve coffee but also act as informal meeting spots where people catch up or prepare for the day ahead.
Business Preparations
The early morning is also a crucial time for businesses to prepare for the day. Office buildings light up as cleaning crews finish their work and employees begin to arrive. Shops and restaurants get ready to open, with staff setting up displays, arranging merchandise, and prepping for breakfast service.
Green Spaces and River Walks
Calgary’s downtown is home to several parks and green spaces, such as Prince’s Island Park and the pathways along the Bow River. In the early morning, these areas are frequented by joggers, dog walkers, and those looking to enjoy a peaceful start to their day. The cool morning air and the sound of the river provide a refreshing environment.
Landmarks and Attractions
Iconic landmarks like the Calgary Tower and the Central Library stand out in the early light. These sites, along with others like the Glenbow Museum and the Arts Commons, are less crowded in the morning, making it an ideal time for a quiet visit.
In summary, early mornings in downtown Calgary offer a unique blend of tranquility and preparation. The streets are calm, the air is fresh, and the city slowly comes to life as businesses and commuters get ready for the day. It’s a perfect time to enjoy the beauty and charm of Calgary before the...
Read moreEdit: So I have come here a few times over the last few years and have realized this place is a hit or miss. Brunch service is great. Dinner service is always a miss. I was here in July, a friend and I walked in, and were put on a list for a table. We were told the wait time of 30 minutes. We said no problem and proceeded to wait outside the restaurant on the bench. We were in clear view of the numerous hostesses. During the 30 minutes we saw multiple guests seated, but we brushed it off thinking they all had reservations. After the 30 minute wait we saw the hostess come outside, talk to another hostess while looking at us, and then went back inside. This happened several times. I walked in after over one hour of waiting and asked why I hadn’t received a call yet. I was told they tried to reach me but that my phone number was incorrect. I then told them that they had seen myself and my friend waiting right outside, and asked why didn’t they come to get us. No one said anything. We were then told they had a table ready for us. I then quickly realized that all of the guests seated before us were non POC. There are some other reviews that are similar when it comes to race so this may be an issue during dinner service.
Once we were seated on the patio we asked for the heater to be turned on and we were told that none of the heaters were working. Why even have them out then?! I was done at the point.
Won’t be coming back here.
Original: Great service and attentive staff. Brunch was awesome. Following COVID protocols,...
Read moreBy far the worst restaurant i’ve ever been to.
The service that I received at this particular Earls was awful, very unprofessional and to the specific waiter that we received she is a person who is a racist, discriminator and all in all ignorant. Our afternoon first starts with us placing an order for oysters to which we were denied because “there are only four left” (apart from that they didn’t give us a single one and tried to charge us a dozen of them). That being said we place a different order of appetizers, then had to wait a total of fifteen minutes for us to get any sort of service. The waiters sorry excuse was “I apologize I assumed you guys were only getting appetizers” chuckling as she’s saying it, clearly based off the way we looked. Those types of comments should never be told to ANY customer, especially when your job is customer service and you’re there working for tips. Now for the food. The appetizers: spinach dip and truffle fries were mediocre, two of the three mains (a burger and mushroom tortellini) were alright but that last dish and the most expensive dish there (surf and turf 9oz) was absolute dirt. Everything on that plate was wrong.. I asked for a medium rare and got a well done, the prawns felt like you were chewing on a hockey puck from how overcooked they were and the vegetables were burnt. To the person reading this, if want a better place to eat i’d suggest The Keg on 130 Ave. It’s...
