Update: And as you can see, first of all, I also emailed Good Earth head office about this issue. Their reply was a genuine apology, they valued my feedback, acknowledged that my time as a customer is important, and even offered me compensation. That’s the kind of response that shows respect. Second, please work on your attitude. Walking away in the middle of someone talking is simply rude. You never apologized for that in your reply here either. But I get it — maybe when people get older, it’s harder to swallow their pride. Third, I went to another Good Earth on campus today. The staff there were wonderful — polite, professional, and not a single unnecessary word. I truly hope this location can learn something from them. Hello, I am writing to make a formal complaint about my experience today, September 16, 2025, at the Good Earth Coffeehouse located in the ICT Building at the University of Calgary. I went to the store to claim my birthday reward. I have previously made purchases at this location and was not simply trying to get something for free. The app did not mention that an ID card was required, so I did not bring one with me. After waiting in line for a long time, I was only informed at the counter that I needed to present an ID. The situation itself was already frustrating, but what made it far worse was the staff member’s attitude. The employee in question was an Asian middle-aged woman with long hair. She was extremely rude and dismissive, rolled her eyes at me, and treated me as if I was only trying to take advantage of the free coffee. When I mentioned that I had a passport, her attitude became even more unfriendly. This behavior made me feel disrespected and even discriminated against. She also told me that they were under no obligation to indicate in the app that ID was required. From a customer’s perspective, however, our time is valuable too. Being told only after waiting in line that I had to return home to get my ID was unreasonable and unacceptable. Finally, before I could even finish speaking, she cut me off, said ā€œthen go get your IDā€, rolled her eyes again, and simply walked away. I hope Good Earth will take this complaint seriously, address the staff member’s behavior, and ensure that customers at the University of Calgary ICT Building location are treated with basic courtesy and respect. At the very least, ID requirements should be clearly communicated in the app to avoid wasting customers’ time.

This Good Earth location is my favourite, though the other location on campus offers delicious food & beverages too. I've ordered nearly everything here, from breakfast pastries to lunches and snacks too. The quality of food is consistently fresh, the owner is so kind, and everything about this coffeehouse makes my day better. The mac & cheese and lentil stew are my favourite lunchtime go-to's, and the muffins make a great snack. However, I could truly recommend anything - it's all delicious.

*Update: As you can see, no apology or accountability for the inappropriate comments made for no reason. I do not care about the hot water, the issue is the passive aggressive comments and then coming back to ask me if I want a refund. They easily could have explained that to me instead of jumping to conclusions. I do not need your explanation of why you would not do it because as I mentioned, I was just picking up a matcha on the way. If you are worried about "sanitation" then the employee would not be asking me for a personal cup, (which is not sanitary either). *

There is seriously something wrong with the manager. I was ordering an iced matcha latte at Good Earth. The employee taking my order asked if I wanted anything else. I requested a cup of hot water, and the employee asked me if I have my own cup. I said that I do not, but I was going to use it for my noodle box and showed it to her to give her a better idea. I also mentioned that I was willing to pay for it. Suddenly, the manager came out of nowhere and told me, "This is a business, not a house," explaining that they do not provide water. I emphasized that I was willing to pay for it and never implied they were a 'house.' That comment was extremely snarky and uncalled for. I was simply asking to order hot water because they inquired if I wanted anything else with my order. She then suggested that I could go somewhere else to get water and warm it up in the microwave. Her comments were completely unnecessary and created a hostile environment. I informed the employee that I was okay with just the matcha.

The manager walked away, and I told the employee that the manager's behavior was extremely passive-aggressive and that I had just asked a simple question. The manager returned, looking to argue with me again, stating that if I only wanted the water, she could refund me for the matcha. She was aware that I initially came to order a matcha and was in the process of paying. She also sarcastically followed up with, "Sorry if we offended you," clearly invalidating the fact that her behavior was what was offensive. My intentions were to order matcha as I usually do, and I was asked if I wanted anything else which was a reasonable request. Her comments and behaviour suggest that I was only there to get hot water, which was not the case, and I do not appreciate being treated as such. Even if that were the case, there is a way to respond to that in a respectful manner.

Her behavior has not only made me uncomfortable but has also made me feel extremely disrespected and added more stress to my day, on top of everything I deal with in school. I respect all services and staff at the University of Calgary and expect the same in return. Had she just said "no, sorry we are not able to do that" without making inappropriate, unnecessary comments, I would have been fine. It is the fact that she made such a big deal over me asking a simple question and was passive...

Title: Excellent Coffee Spot on Campus!

Review: I am thrilled to share my experience at this coffee place located within our university. Without a doubt, it is hands down the best coffee spot on campus! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, instantly putting a smile on my face.

The quality of the coffee served here is exceptional. Each cup is meticulously crafted by skilled baristas who clearly take pride in their work. The rich, robust flavors and perfect balance make every sip a delight. Whether you're a fan of espresso-based beverages or prefer a soothing pour-over, they have an impressive range of options to cater to all tastes.

What sets this place apart is not only their incredible coffee but also their commitment to exceptional customer service. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with any inquiries or recommendations. They go above and beyond to create a welcoming environment where you can relax, catch up with friends, or study.

The cozy seating areas and well-designed interior provide a comfortable space to unwind and enjoy your favorite brew. It's evident that attention to detail has been given to every aspect, from the cozy lighting to the tasteful decor.

Additionally, the prices are reasonable and affordable, especially for students like myself. This coffee spot is a hidden gem that offers an oasis of caffeine goodness right on our university grounds.

If you're in search of a top-notch coffee experience, look no further. This place has it all—impeccable coffee, friendly staff, cozy ambiance, and great value for money. I highly recommend paying a visit and discovering the best coffee spot in our university...
