This is such a cute little coffee house. I've been here 3 times since my stay in Calgary.
The first time was top notch service, the barista was pleasant, out going, genuine and made an amazing iced coffee.
The second time was completely opposite, it seemed like a super young almost to young to be working person helping me there was another woman there but she was assisting other people so im not sure if the person helping me was in training but she didn't know what she was doing (no worries could have been new and she was trying her best so not upset at all) my iced coffee wasn't good, I didn't drink it. So it seems like this was probably just a one off.. it happens.
The third time I go and ask for a iced coffee the barista says we don't have ice coffee. I told her I've gotten it 2 times prior. She had a tone and said im telling you we don't have iced coffee. I pointed to the clear cups behind her and said it was in that cup with cream, sweetener and cold coffee, do you just not have any right now? Again very stern and with a rude tone she said like I said we don't have iced coffee we have hot coffee if I pour it over ice it will just melt. I paused because I knew they carried it and I said.. do you want to call and ask your manager? Because I know you do. She turned away from me and opened the fridge inside there were 4 cold brew canisters, I said to her thats it right there. She took it out and tasted it and said it was. She apologized immediately and said she's been gone for a month traveling and wasn't aware of the change. She seemed genuine in her apology and made a great iced coffee.
Point is I probably won't be back as I just feel like maybe there needs to be more communication or training or something for consistency. All 3 times were completely different. Do I think you should try it? ABSOLUTELY, this is only my opinion and it could have been 2 off days and maybe this...
Read moreIf you are looking for the perfect café in central Calgary but you don’t want to feel like you are in the city’s core then I have good news for you! Good News had a distinct small-town charm and feel to it. The iced drinks and soft serve are just as fresh as the staff. Good News is worth going out of your way for!
I had an iced turmeric latte, and my partner had a lavender soda. We also shared a Yuzu Blueberry Soft-serve, which was a perfect treat for a hot sunny day - you can immediately tell that Good News actually uses fresh produce. Overall, if I had to describe my experience in a single word, fresh would be it.
Both of the drinks my partner and I had, had a perfect amount of sweetness without overdoing it (unlike any other coffee place I can think of). The lavender soda had fresh lavender sprinkled in it, and the iced turmeric latte had the right amount of turmeric to keep a balanced flavour that was delicious and refreshing!
My partner and I live a couple of doors down from Good News, and I almost left feeling like this Good News was too good to be true; but when (not if) I’m back in the coming days, if this isn’t just a pleasant dream, I’ll come back aiming to try something new!
Be sure to head to Good News if you’re walking the 9th Avenue strip in Inglewood! The location which is just next to the YWCA is excellent - tucked just out of sight at the east end of 9th Avenue, you’ll find that it is removed from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the strip. Rest your weary legs and enjoy an iced turmeric latte (with espresso, of course), or stop by to buy a pack of Thrills gum or one of the other candies they carry which are sure to leave you feeling nostalgic.
I’m sure that if you stop by Good News, you will leave knowing it is in fact just that. I’ll definitely be back very soon! Hear this good news,...
Read moreWent in for a drink for my 3yo and was immediately met with the most ignorant and DISCRIMINATING staff demanding I wear a mask. I calmly explained that I have a medical exemption and was told that exemptions were not accepted there. I then asked why an exemption would not be accepted given the bylaw states that exemptions must be accepted as not everyone can wear masks. My friend started recording the staff as they became hostile, argumentative and completely irrational. The red head clerk then called the owner who came into the cafe and asked what was the issue. We explained what happened and she asked to see the exemption to which my friend stated that legally it was not necessary but we would have if the staff had asked rather then being extremely rude and hostile. At this point the staff were flat out lying to the owner that they never denied our exemption. The owner then chose to belittle us that the staff have a right to feel safe in their own way and that exemptions were accepted and asked what we wanted but refused to deal with the blatant discrimination and uncalled for attitude from the staff, especially from the red head. Not to mention that while this is happening a young man was using their space heater to dry his gloves right in front of the cash with nothing being said to him about his mask being under his red, runny nose.
Needless to say, they did not get my business nor will they ever. There are many other cafe's that don't discriminate, and AREN'T rude or ignorant to customers and are aware that the bylaw states that masking is not a "one size fits all" plan, plus all are located within a short drive.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT...
