India Palace Restaurant & Sweets — Restaurant in Calgary

The food and desserts here are really good and you get the authentic taste of Indian food. If you order food from their restaurant the prices are fairly cheap, but the portions are smaller than you'd normally see in other restaurants. The reason I knocked off one star is because when I went to sit in the restaurant they had their radio cranked up really loud, and I believe it was the Quran being sung. While it was beautiful, it was also hard to focus on conversations; and eventually I did get a headache from the loud, consistent speaker that didn't pause for one break. Hopefully they turn it down just a little bit in the future so customers can enjoy a relaxing ambiance and are able to speak to their dining partners. I knocked off another star because since the dishes were small portions and my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the restaurant, it shouldn't have taken 20-25 minutes for our food to arrive. Went to dine in with kids. Ordered idlis, kadahi paneer and malai kofta. It was a horrible experience The idlis were stale the kadai paneer and malai kofta were tasteless. Tried contacting owner but the guy at the counter didn't give the contact number and just gave 5 dollars discount. I insisted to have a word with the owner regarding the poor quality of food he increased the discount to 9 dollars and said it's the best he can do and he is not going to give the owner's number. I called this restaurant today morning to order paratha thali for take out. There was one lady on call. I was talking to her in English she laughed and made fun of me. I don’t know why she wanted me to talk to her only in Punjabi? ( i think that is my choice in which language i want to talk to so on) She said “hahaha tusi english ch kyo bol rhe punjabi ch gal karlo ave aukhe ho rhe. I was like i don’t think m aukhi ho rhi while ordering in english. It is normal for us. We live in Canada and that’s the language we speak here.
