I was leaving cabelas in the morning and Google "all day breakfast" since I had nothing to do for a few hours this morning and this place popped up about 5km South of my location. So I decided to bypass the rickies and Denny's and try a smaller private venue, I was not disappointed. I arrived and there was a small line. Had about a 20 minute wait and that just made me more hungry. I can never fault a company for being busy! And anything good is worth waiting for. I felt kind of bad though as it's a busy restaurant and I'm a table of 1 =/ so I was seated polite staff efficiently working away and everyone knew their position well. Ordered my regular meal 3 eggs 3 toast hash and extra bacon... Now it's a simple order but you'd be surprised at how many places can ruin it. Either junky cheap eggs with ghostly yellow yolks, or goopy hash browns, under cooked bacon so I'm not really that picky ill eat what's thrown in front of me.... Kinda like my dog now that I think about it. However my meal arrived about 8 minutes after ordering which makes me think they bumped it because I was a table of one. Get em in get em out, which I'm okay with. This is a buisness and I'm taking up real estate ordering only one meal. So food arrives. Eggs cooked exactly the way I'd imagine they should be, bacon perfectly cooked not fried silly or burnt and not soggy or undercooked, like perfectly cooked bacon, hash browns cooked perfect as well not soggy not over cooked or over salted they were seasoned perfectly like the person behind the grill gives a sh** . Toast evenly buttered. I know I shouldn't be this excited over a breakfast order however the exceptional taste of the food the quick and efficient staff and the attention to detail made me very happy I randomly chose this place to eat at and will definitely make the drive in from outside of Calgary just to eat here again when the mood strikes....
Read moreJohn's Breakfast is a neighborhood staple that I’ve been going to for about two years now, and it's easy to see why it’s such a local favorite. This isn’t the place for a fancy, bougie breakfast experience, but if you’re after a warm, family-run spot with a down-to-earth feel, John's is it. The vibe here is so welcoming, and you’ll find that almost everyone who walks in is a regular.
The service at John’s is personal and friendly — they remember everyone's order! I always get the half benny-- this is great on the wallet, and isn't over filling. It’s quick, sweet service that makes you feel like part of the family. The prices are also very reasonable, especially compared to many other spots around. There’s something comforting about seeing familiar faces here week after week, and I love the sense of community that comes with every visit.
A nice backstory here is that the daughters of John’s family now have their own venture, Milk Ice Cream, which originally sold out of this very cafe. It’s little stories like this that make John’s Breakfast feel like more than just a restaurant — it’s a part of the neighborhood’s fabric. If you’re looking for a casual, well-priced, and community-centered breakfast spot, John's...
Read moreWe love breakfast, who doesn't? We are always on the lookout for good breakfast places and Johns caught our eye as a place to try.
We ordered from their relatively large selection of vegetarian options. I had an eggs benedict and my wife had an egg topped veggie bowl.
The eggs were perfectly prepared and the veggies and potatoes were excellent. The hollandaise sauce was, sadly, bland an unremarkable. I am pretty sure it was a mix and not a good one at that. I asked for some butter for my French toast and the butter that arrived was full of crumbs which was unappealing.
Overall it was a good breakfast and it was reasonably priced. I would go here as a staple local breakfast place when I just need to eat and I didn't really care about getting anything special. There is nothing wrong with the food. It's good, but not great. It reminds me of Humpties, except that it's good.
Don't expect fruit and know that you will get enough potatoes to warrant a doggy bag, but you certainly will not be hungry afterwards. For the...
