The saddest thing about this restaurant is that the Chinese food found in a food court is much much better than the food here.
Checked this place out for dinner as local food critic John Gilchrist had suggested this place was pretty good. WRONG!!! Unfortunately, I should've listened to the google review critics instead as their reviews seem to be more accurate than Gilchrist's review in my opinion.
Ordered their salt and pepper squid - common asian dish, tough to go wrong with it. Nothing but vegetables consisting of green peppers, celery, and yellow onions, literally half a dozen tiny pieces of squid cut in half to around 1" lengths. Salt and pepper squid? More like salt and pepper vegetables.
The other dish we ordered per the servers recommendation was this shredded chicken with szechuan sauce. Again, nothing but vegetables, mainly onions, tomatoes, green peas and small amounts of chicken, more like a canary than a chicken to be honest. Sauce was literally a tomato sauce with sugar aka ketchup. Shredded chicken with szechuan sauce? I would easily describe this as shredded canary with lots of vegetables in ketchup sauce. Absolutely disgusting.
Everything we ordered consisted significantly of vegetables and had very little of whatever the dish was actually supposed to be. I felt like we had ordered a vegan meal to be honest.
The best part of the dinner for us? The white rice. Plain, simple, white rice. The rice was the biggest hit.
Restaurant is dated. Service was poor, nothing special. If I could give a zero...
Read moreI've heard such awesome things from friends about this place, I have one friend who grew up in the Elbow Park area, and this was his family's favourite restaurant for years. I've had only so-so food from Leo Fu's, one time, like Owen Gong below, I ordered Palace Style Chicken, and it came like no other Palace Style Chicken I'd ever seen even from a food court. No breading, just some plain chicken with a whole wack of mostly onions! It was terrible! I had ordered it while they were busy during a lunch buffet as I had a friend coming over and wanted something to serve him in the afternoon. I have picked up a few other items at other times and they have been better, but this place is nothing to write home about. Maybe it's one of those restaurants that was great 25 years ago, and people who went as children and felt they knew the staff don't want to let go of their good memories. The prices are higher than all other chinese restaurants I've had menus from in the area, and the staff is always kinda, well, rude and rushed even if you are the only one there. They speak to each other in Chinese right over your head and just throw the change at you. No thank you, no please come again. Perhaps they should retire, they sure don't seem to enjoy either making OR serving their...
Read moreWas looking for a new place to have chinese food and based on the reviews this place looked pretty good. I ordered some take out which included the crispy chicken, salt & pepper squid and orange beef.
The crispy chicken special was the most expensive and lightest of the dishes and when we opened it there was nothing but crispy skin on bones. The half chicken was unbelievably small and what meat there was, was so dry it was completely inedible. I called them to complain but the only words they would offer is that the chicken was supposed to be that way. I have eaten many half-chicken dishes from various Chinese restaurants and this was by far the worst and most inedible dish I've ever tasted. The chicken tasted like leftovers from a few days ago that wasn't stored properly and simply reheated.
The orange beef wasn't bad but the salt and pepper squid was a complete rip off with more than half of the dish being vegetables (most of it onions)! I have never seen this before for a salt and pepper squid dish which usually only has a little bit of green or red pepper to add color and make the dish look nicer.
They are either highly overrated or have unreliable service so eat there at...
