Mr. Schnapp’s Pub & Grill — Restaurant in Calgary

Used to be my favourite dive. Been going there for many many years. Exemplary food and service. Used to take all my friends who moved to Canada to get a taste of their first friendly neighborhood pub. However, possibly due to the negative effects of uncontrolled and unqualified immigration ,got my first taste of unbridled racism today. Me and my buddy from Costa Rica went there this evening. We were parked in front of Gallagher's but on a whim I took him to Mr. Schnapps as he'd never been there. Place was virtually empty save for a group of very old gentlemen playing pool. My friend whispered to me saying he feels like we are intruding on their space and that we were getting dirty looks. I glanced across and could see that a couple of them could not take their eyes off us though we were sitting in a corner quite far from them. We ordered food and drinks and then this drunk approached our table and started talking about our age and singing loudly. Trying to be polite we let him be but slowly his demeanor changed and he started being aggressive and mocking my friend's spanish accent, my tan and at one point asked if I sell turbans. It is no use explaining to an elementary school dropout who's probably never seen past his mom's backyard, about other parts of India where 90% of people have post -grad degrees and can speak and write better English than the average Canadian. Anyways at this stage the server intervened and made him to move away to the far end. Totally killed our evening to be honest and would never go to Mr. Schnapps again with friends of other nationalities or even my true blooded 3rd gen Canadian friends.Let it remain a hangout for old people who probably long for their old caucasian Canada back. They worked hard to get it to where it was before the flood gates opened. I don't blame them. But bad for business though for Me.Schapps management. Proserve teaches you watch for drunkenness and aggression and take appropriate steps to protect servers and guests. The poor server had no one to help her. We were worried for her safety. Sorry, one staff member to serve close to 50 people dinner and drinks just doesn't cut it. Our orders, coming out 1 at a time took over an hour for the entire table of twenty to be served from one end to the other. Some were finished eating while others still had to wait a half hour. The last ones had no idea if our orders were even coming at all. One gal doing the bartending, cooking, serving, cleaning, managing and cashier is insufficient. She doesn't have time for anything. Even her barking "How are you" and leaving before your guests can answer leaves one feeling a little cold. Incomplete orders, incorrect bills, etc. We were all feeling sorry for our waitress but when asked about it she said she doesn't need help. Oh, yes you do! Under these extreme circumstances she did pretty good but her stress levels are off the chart. Who's wouldn't be? Had to lower to a 1 star. Place has absolutely gone down hill. Items on the menu regularly not available. Will not be going back. Better quality of food at other local pubs.

Below is my original review from when Jimmy owned it. Just came in for the Thursday steak special to find out they had no steaks. Ordered some wing, which came incorrectly. The burger was messy and soggy fries and bun. Ordered a pitcher of beer, then when asked if we wanted another, I said we would let you know. She comes out with another one and then has the audacity to charge me the regular price for it when it's on special Thursdays. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back for a long time. Too bad. Also, only 3 other people in the place.

Always have a great time here. The owners are awesome, good food and it doesn't break the bank. They have food and drink specials everyday all day. Can't beat the $40 cent wings on everyday. I highly suggest this place for a quick bite to eat for lunch or...
