ROCKWELL Food + Taps — Restaurant in Calgary

First time at Rockwell. The atmosphere was beautiful and perfect for a date night. The overall volume was lively yet you could still speak to other people at your table with ease. The live plants make the space inviting and fresh. The ladies upfront were super accommodating and sat us at the bar while we waited for a table to become available. The bartender was friendly and attentive. Beer selection was good and mixed drinks were well made. Husband ordered the Fish and Chips which was delicious light and fresh. Highly recommend!! I ordered the Steak Frittes.. Asked for medium but it was overcooked. Our waitress did not check back for about 10 minutes so I decided to just eat it as the taste of the steak was still good. The two hostesses and the bartenders were awesome!! However, once we got a table our server was not very friendly. First thing she said was that she had to make sure the table wasn’t reserved since they were usually busy at that time even though we told her the hostess had moved us over. She seemed disinterested in us as we had already paid for our dinner ( We had to settle up at the bar before moving to a table) and did not check up on us until 10 mins after we got our food. We did order additional drinks once she finally came back. Since it was a full restaurant we understood that she was busy but unfortunately it was not a positive experience due to the lack of service. We still plan to return and hopefully have better service as the rest of the staff...

This is the second time I’ve been to Rockwells. The first time was for lunch and I had a sirloin steak salad. It was exceptional. Service was very good and I knew I would return. Tonight I had reservations for 6 people at 5:30. We waited over an hour for our food. It was very busy and the service was fairly attentive. I ordered the steak and potatoes with a demiglaze. The steak and potatoes were very good. However, the demiglaze had such a bizarre flavour. I can only compare it to, weirdly enough, cough syrup and it was really off putting. When I told the server that I didn’t like the sauce and asked for gravy instead, I was given it but charged an additional $3.50. I said I didn’t think it was fair to charge me for a replacement sauce as I found the demiglaze really unappealing. I was told that it had received “rave reviews” and basically it was my problem if I didn’t care for it. So at the end of the day, it could have been a really positive experience but I just felt angry that my concern was considered that I was in the wrong and how I felt about the product didn’t count. It may be a minor issue but it made our party not want to return there again. When going out for a meal these days is so expensive and they make a small thing a deal breaker, it makes you regret going out to eat. Will not be going back again...

Was excited to try this place out following the renovations. Inside looks great. Bright and airy. Pool table, games, etc. so could be a great place to hang out. Really like that they have upcoming live music listed when you walk in. Lord knows this city could use more of that.

The food was hit and miss in our opinion. We had wings to start, I had a burger with mashed potatoes and my husband had the tex mex bowl.

My burger patty was super tasty. Along with the toppings. Cooked perfectly. The bun needed some work. It was a little oily and not crispy enough. IMO would have liked it with less oil/butter and crisped up on the grill rather than a flat top. The potatoes were just ok.

The tex mex bowl was just ok too. While the individual components were cooked well, the dish lacked cohesiveness. Felt like a bunch of different ingredients on a plate. There also wasn't enough meat/too many pickled onions.

The wings were delish. But we were there on wing night so it didn't come with veg or dip. We opted to pay a little more for that. It came with a thimble size cup of ranch. Defs could have used more.

Our server was lovely and experience was decent overall. We do intend to go back and try some other things. With it being new, we're hopeful some customer feedback is taken to...
