It's rare to plan your next visit as you are leaving the establishment, but that's what I found myself doing leaving Roma's Pizzaria. Ok, that sounds like an ad, but I've always loved the pizza from Mona's Pizza in the early 2000s and Roma's Pizzeria is another home run from the same owner/head chef.
With the old Mona's leaning towards Regina style pizza, Roma's leans towards Italian style pizza with a thinner, more light and flaky crust. The flavours and quality ingredients remain, resulting in my favourite pizza in town.
I tried individual slices of Spinach & Feta as well as Donaire. Spinach & Feta was flavourful in every respect. The tomato sauce was in perfect flavour-harmony with the spinach and the cheese, with no taste overpowering the other.
The donaire pizza leveled up from the previously recognized best donaire pizza in town. The donaire sauce was unique, with the new taste surprising me in the best ways. The red onions work wonderfully making it feel different from all other donaire pizza offerings in the city. It's a donaire pizza that didn't make me feel incredibly heavy and greasy by the end; another bonus.
The prices are incredibly fair for what you're getting with quality, very comparable to all other pizza-by-the-slice places. Though the slices are large and, while they aren't as thick as other places that have a thicker crust or drown the ingredients with cheese, the flavours are all there and you feel like you're biting into a perfected recipe each and every bite.
The pizzeria is pretty small so the dine-in experience wouldn't be suitable for large groups, but the outdoor picnic benches make up for that when the weather permits. When summer hits you'll find me on one of those benches abandoning my goal of having a summer beach body as I munch on chicken wings. The pizzeria also installed a public foosball table in the outdoor space which we played with while waiting for fresh pies. It didn't feel like a wait at all.
I may be a fanboy of this place and this might read like a fluff piece, so take all reviews into consideration, but at the very least try it out and judge for yourself. At worst, you'll think it's good pizza and was worth checking out. If you're like me, you're scheduling a visit at least...
Read moreI took a trip to Calgary for the first time & my friend I was staying with recommend this pizza spot. At first I wasn’t sure if I even wanted pizza, but he did so we went anyways.... and I’m so glad we did!
The owner is just as amazing as the pizza. Real down to earth guy. The second time I went (Yes, I went back the next day lol) I really just felt like sitting there and having a conversation with the owner cause he’s just that easy going. You can tell he works hard & takes pride in what he does, those vibes alone is what brought me back.
Now, if your still reading this review, you probably have 1 question on your mind & that’s “How’s the food?!”. Right? Well before I tell you, let me be honest; I only tried one thing on the menu. The first time I walked into Roma’s, my friend told me about their special ‘Donair pizza’. I’ve never heard of this donair pizza before, nor have I seen anyone back home in Toronto sell donair pizza. The owner absolutely sold me on this pizza, he was so confident that I would love it that he did NOT accept my money until I told him that I loved it. Man... I love that pizza! lol! Easily one of the greatest pizza’s I’ve come across.
Like I mentioned before, I went back the very next day. I couldn’t resist...
But the shocking thing about going the next day, was seeing the amount of traffic this pizza spot gets. When I came back, the donair pizza was sold out; but of course I waited for him to make more. While I waited, that’s when I realized how popular this donair pizza is & I totally understand why!
To wrap all this up, I gave this place 5 stars because the owner was humble, pretty cool, kind, funny, & just overall a great guy! Also the food is definitely as good as I hype it up to be lol.
Thanks Roma’s for the great experience! Much love
Short Version: Roma’s is so dope! I definitely...
Read moreRoma in Calgary is one of those rare places that instantly wins you over. From the second we walked in, we could tell this wasn’t just another pizza shop — it’s run by someone with over 40 years of experience, and it really shows. He has a way of making every customer feel welcome, almost like you’ve been invited into his own kitchen.
The food is incredible. You can taste the care and experience in every bite. The crust has just the right texture, the toppings are generous, and the flavors are bold without being overdone. While we were waiting, we were given free samples — including a sweet mushroom pizza that completely blew me away. It’s not even on the online menu, which made it feel like a special treat, and honestly, I’d come back just for that.
The service deserves just as much praise as the food. It’s rare to find a place where the staff are so genuinely friendly and attentive. There’s no rush, no stress — just a focus on making sure you enjoy yourself. The whole experience felt relaxed and memorable.
Roma isn’t just a place to grab pizza; it’s the kind of restaurant you’ll tell your friends about and want to return to again and again. Between the exceptional food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the owner’s passion and decades of expertise, it’s easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve...
