Experienced August 23 2023 at 6 pm till 8:00 pm Food is very good , great flavours and perfect spices. What started out good was the service from the one female server that slowly declined making me change how I felt about being a valued customer. After having our appetizers the server brought warmed dinner plates for our entree I was impressed and said that I was impressed her response was āokayā. This somehow lacks engagement I was making a compliment! Then half way through our dinner / entree she returned to ask if we would be ordering anything else ??? Strange question we are not even finished our dinner. I replied yes and she left our table !! Iām no longer impressed itās very rude to ask guests if they will be ordering anything else half way through their meal !! Iām not on a budget ! Iād like to enjoy my food and not feel like itās time to leave. When we finished she came back and we told her we would like to order dessert what did they have ? She then rambled off about 5 items non of which I even know what they are !!! She made no attempt to tell us what these were and actually should have gotten us a menu so we could look. We actually looked up the menu for Spices on our cell phones while she stood there so we knew what to order We also ordered 2 Chia Tea (I do not recommend). Ive had amazing Chia Tea, and Service and the Calcutta Cricket Club !!! She left our dirty dishes on our table and brought us our dessert and tea !!! Basically I felt like she wanted guests gone. We were not the only ones in the restaurant but her service was exceptional POOR I would not want her in my business place as a server, people would be prompted to leave without further ordering thatās a cut in your profits !! If I do go again I can only hope this server is not working but if she is I will make a comment if we experience the same rude...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to dine in for lunch . For a Friday afternoon around 1245-1 pm , the place looked dead with only 1 table occupied. We ordered Samosa , Veg Biryani and the curry combo ( Malai Kofta - the lady who took the order asked what would our choice of protein be - lacked basic knowledge of Indian food ) .
we waited a good 40 min during which we heard loud bangs inside the kitchen and vessels noises which is not pleasing to the ear . samosa showed up , upon first bite , it tasted sour and flavorless and returned and cancelled to which the staff said they were investigating.
The malai kofta looked and was cooked differently , it lacked the usual creaminess (malai) and basic garnishes , it looked like the aloo tikki patty tossed in a brownish onion sauce . The accompanying garlic naan and plain rice were decent and dint require much effort in making.
The veg Biryani was a confusion between a tawa pulao and mix veg rice , it had broccoli and cauliflower and a couple of strands of frozen carrots and lacked any other vegetables or flavor , definitely not cooked in a handi, it was a basic powdered readymade biryani topped with fried onions to make it look authentic.
The biryani came with either a raita or a plain curry , we chose the raita ,which was served in a small cup but tasted good and we ordered a separate portion.
Overall a forgettable experience for us traveling and having been to some Really authentic places in NE Calgary, this place should not be advertised as an Indian eat out ,may be stick to the Nepalese version at best .
Educate your staff so that they can help out with the menu items for customers who show up assuming this is an Indian restaurant.
Lot to be desired to meet competitors in the Calgary area for good Indian food.
If you cannot put good food on the plate donāt expect...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe decided to check out Spices Restaurant in Seton. I placed an order consisting of Momos, Rogan Josh and Punjabi Garlic Masala (all chicken) and some Naan. Momos were okay, in fact smaller compared to competition in Calgary. The main disappointment were the curry dishes. Both the dishes looked and tasted exactly the same, not even the slightest difference. I even inquired and confirmed with chef that he got my order right and it was not a screw up. He confirmed that both these supposedly ādifferentā dishes, were exactly same curries. Tbh, the taste reminded me of Vindaloo. I wouldnāt be surprised if they serve this same curry as Vindaloo dish too. In their defence, the flavour was good, and price reasonable for the portion size. But, in order to make their menu appear bigger, they are using different names for the same dish. As a customer, itās definitely deceiving and possibly, the deal...
