Sushi Toki — Restaurant in Calgary

I was so excited to eat here again it’s been awhile and not because it’s mediocre it’s just that I’m traveling more now. I forgot to take a picture of the beautiful bento box we ordered. Next time! The bento box you can choose beef, chicken, or sashimi. We went with the sashimi. The box came with miso soup, two shrimps (they were so flavourful) two big tempura yams, four sashimi, four sushi, a delicious green salad with calamari rings. We also ordered California rolls with masago and a dynamite cone. The leftovers were just as delicious later on. I’ve tried many sushi places in Calgary and this little place is consistently the best! The food is fresh fresh fresh and that’s important when eating sushi! You notice the flavour is superior and I’m ultra sensitive to ingredients in terms of taste and smell. It’s a smaller restaurant but if you’re ever in that area and have a bit of time, they are a tad slow to prepare but trust me you won’t be disappointed. Did I mention the price? This is our local sushi restaurant, and it just so happens to also be our favourite. We have never, ever left disappointed. It's a little pricy, but isn't sushi always? Get the calamari salad as a starter. No. Just do it. You'll thank me. And the deep fried banana ice cream as a dessert is also a good choice! I'm a bit of an odd duck and I pretty much stick to yam sushi (I am pregnant so I should avoid raw fish)! But, I've had bad yam sushi before from other establishments! Not this one. Always good. My boyfriend does salmon and tuna, and he's always enjoyed his! I've done the unagi, different varieties, and it was good. I didn't like one roll, with tempura in it because that was the most overwhelming texture and flavour of the roll, but I can't remember what it was called. It was a special roll, and totally not worth it. Still, food is usually great! And they give you these gross little good candies when you're done that I really enjoy. I was lucky enough to visit this amazing sushi restaurant in Calgary, and from the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a memorable experience.

The service was warm, friendly and attentive at all times, which made me feel right at home and the food was simply spectacular. Every bite transported me straight to Japan, with a freshness and balance of flavours that only a true sushi master can achieve. The cuts of fish were impeccable and the rice had the perfect texture, each dish was executed with precision and creativity.

The only thing that left me wondering is how interesting it would be to see a more elaborate dish on the menu. With the chef's obvious talent, I'm convinced he could dare to create something unique and exclusive, a dish that further elevates the experience and manages to take us to discover the more sophisticated corners of Japanese cuisine.
