Well, it looks like they pulled it off! A few months after being ignominiously kicked out of their Inglewood location, The Blues Can has re-opened in the North Hill, and although they've been open for less than a week, my recent visit left me very impressed.

The building was never meant to be a performance venue (it was originally a White Spot restaurant if I remember correctly), and I admit when I first walked in, I was a little disconcerted to see that they had apparently just curtained off one corner of the joint to act as a stage.

But when the band took the stage, it immediately became clear that management & staff knew what they were doing. The sound was clear, the levels were appropriate and balanced, and it was overall a great musical experience. The way they'd arranged the tables meant that there appeared to be great sightlines from almost anywhere in the house (except maybe the booths along the walls) and there's even room for a small dance floor in front of the band.

The New Orleans-inspired food was good, the service was friendly, they have local beer on tap, and even the washrooms were well-maintained.

If you're a fan of live music,...

What a delightful place for live music! Love blues music and seems like it's a dying genre, so it's really nice to see places like this exist. Wife took me here for our anniversary and we absolutely loved the atmosphere and live music scene here. Service was phenomenal and our server Rachel was such a gem. She was fantastic, considering how busy it was, she was still a rockstar. The hostess manning the front was awesome as well. Food wasn't too bad, but the cheap drinks and live music definitely made up for it. I can see why this spot has countless regulars, I want to become a regular here myself! The band that was playing when we came was fantastic. We had such a great time and we will 100% be back. This place is awesome, nice to see that live music bars are still alive. Awesome to see people going up and dancing as well. We had a wonderful time, I highly recommend this place. Just be sure to buy your show tickets online and make a reservation! This place gets...

Review for Blues Can, Calgary

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hey everyone! I just had the most amazing time at the Blues Can in Calgary, and I have to share it with you! First off, the food was absolutely delicious—like, seriously, I could eat there every day.

Now let’s talk about the service. The staff was super friendly and really made us feel at home. They were always there when we needed something, which was awesome!

But the best part? The open jam session! My partner, Kenny Lotd, got up to play drums, and the vibe was just electric! There were so many talented musicians, and it felt like a big party. It was pretty crowded, but honestly, that just made it more fun. Everyone was having a blast, and the energy was off the charts!

I can't wait to check out their new place when we come back to Calgary at the end of January. The Blues Can is now definitely one of our favorite spots! If you're looking for great food, awesome music, and a fun atmosphere,...

I went for the first time in like 25 years last weekend and it was a great time! One friends of mine were playing so my girlfriend and I decided to have a date night. We ordered some food. And way too many beers! She had the shrimp Po boy. It was good, the shrimp was crisp, the feg was fresh, nothing got too soggy, sauce was flavorful. The corn bread... Wow!!! I could have eaten a whole tray to myself! I had the mac and cheese. It had a good kick. Lots of jalapenos, the chorizo was good. It wasn't too runny and it didn't seize as some house mad mac and cheese have a tendency to do. All in all it was a great night and it's beyond sad and disappointing such a great little piece of Calgary music heritage is being replaced by more condos. I will miss it!
