So let me tell you about my experience. Me and my bf and his tenants went out for a coffee and some pastries to have a chat on the 26th of December. Never been there. The tenant googles this place cause it was close by the house and had good reviews. We get there, cashiers by the entrance are so sweet and saying hello and welcome. The market looks so inviting. I was super excited. We get to the cafe. Sat down. And then started waiting and waiting and waiting. No one came. So after 15 mins, I stopped one of the waitresses and asked what was going on and can we get menus. We didn't sit in her section, so she grabbed the menus for us and told us she's gonna let our waitress know. So another 5 mins goes by and nothing. I turn around and I see our waitress, Precious, talking to another waitress and laughing, having a great time. Then she finally looks at the table and sees me looking at her and makes her way to the table, after finishing the conversation. So it's about 22 mins in, we are there. She comes, no "hello", no "how are you?", only "what can I get you?" No eye contact. So the tenant orders cappuccino, my man orders German coffee, and I wanted ginger beer, but she said they didn't have it. I was surprised, cause there are 3 kinds and they had none. So I asked what else they have that is on the menu and in stock and she got so annoyed and started with attitude. Brought me 3 bottles to choose from. I chose pink grapefruit soda, she left it on the table with the cap on, and it's not a twist off. And while I was talking to my bf's tenant (we are both from Ukraine and she doesn't speak English, so I was there to translate), my bf ordered pastries and I didn't hear it. He had to go to the car to get his wallet. While he was out, she brought the pastries. I asked why, cause I didn't know he ordered them. She gave me attitude, saying "well, the man ordered it" and smirked in my face and walked off. I wanted to leave right away, but my bf got back and convinced me to stay. So we got busy talking business. 47 mins later, no coffee, no cappuccino and my bottle still has a cap on. Precious nowhere to be found. Then I see her behind the counter chatting with coworkers, that are actually working and laughing. I waved, she saw me and pretended she didn't. I asked the other waitress, where are our drinks and the bottle opener. Again, took precious another 2-3 mins to come up. I was livid. 50 mins in and no drink, just dry pastries, that we didn't even eat. I asked what happened to the drinks, and she had the audacity to lie to my face and say we didn't order any. I pointed on my bottle and said, what we all ordered and she didn't even bother opening my bottle all this time. Again, she gave me attitude, saying I'm lying about ordering the drinks. I ordered mine and mine alone. My bf ordered his and his tenant ordered hers. So I told her to take my bottle back and I didn't even want the pastries at this point, but my bf wanted to take them home. So precious brought the boxes, tossed them on the table and my bf paid and we left. I am never going back there again. Neither will my bf's tenants. And now, the Ukrainian community is talking about the crappy service there, from Precious. The Ukrainian tenant was shocked from the despicable service we got. She is very new here and was asking me, if this is normal in Canada, to get attitude, while forgetting our order and and not even servicing us for 50 mins!?!?! She said, in Ukraine, she'd be fired on the spot. And I said, welcome to Canada! Why are you hiring people, that have no business working in hospitality? She was so rude. I'm disgusted and disappointed. Cause when I saw the place, I was soooo excited to try new things and I was just speechless after that so called "service". And the thing is, the other waitress was so nice. Wish we sat in her section. Didn't get her name, Asian lady. But precious, if you're gonna keep her working there, put her in the back, she has absolutely no business serving customers. If we got a good service, we would've been customers for...
Read moreThe shop offers exceptional variety and despite the steep prices everyone is sure to find something to their taste - whether in food or in gifts. The owners provide top-notch customer service to ensure returning customers and take pride in the training they offer their staff. For this I would give them 5 stars.
Unfortunately, as mentioned by many others in their less-than-satisfied reviews, to close off the delightful experience you often find yourself dreading the cash-out experience. If you get the Hexe that I've gotten several times, you'll find yourself rushed through as though you're an inconvenience (another review also mentioned this issue with attitude). She's cranky and unpleasant. (in the words of my polite mother "nicht besonders freundlich!") Every. Single. Time.
In early December, upon landing at the till of the said person and getting our order processed we were admonished in front of all the customers in line -- for having to leave the till to go exchange my elderly mother's rum Stollen for regular Stollen (around the corner from the till). Upon returning, said person told us she would recall the suspended transaction and ring us through but next time she would send us to the back of the line to wait our turn. I was completely aghast at her rudeness. Send us to the back of a 10 person line-up, only for her to recall the suspended transaction of 7 items when we get our turn (again)???? Aside from being totally absurd, her saying it was beyond rude! I would never dream of saying such a thing to a customer!?
Talk about leaving customers with a bitter taste as they walk out after a happy visit. Which feeling do you think people will remember? And, when sharing my experience with friends, they also shared similar experiences with this grumpy Hexe.
When we addressed this matter with Edelweiss' customer service rep, aside from a patronizing "so, you're feeling.....?" we got excuses that "Christmas is a busy time..." This attitude confirms what other reviewers have stated: it's a management issue when poor behaviour keeps being indulged. For this, I'm giving 2 stars - it's a reoccurring problem.
That said, firstly, the cranky woman is not just unpleasant at Christmas. She's like that every time I land at her till - which is all too often. Secondly, as a proud Christian establishment, courteous and kind customer service is something you'd want your staff to practice at all times. Lastly, if there's ANY time when the Christian spirit should be MOST evident, shouldn't it be at CHRISTMAS time so there's no excuse for her rudeness.
Here's hoping for better endings to future visits. I for one, will be aiming for any cashier...
Read moreMy wife and I recently visited Edelweiss Village around 1:45 pm with high expectations, hoping to indulge in the Hot Chocolate Festival YYC offerings and to purchase some speciality sausages. Unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. Upon our arrival, we approached the glass display case where sausages were on display. Despite standing patiently, the staff behind the counter failed to acknowledge our presence despite us being the only people waiting to be served. It was disheartening to feel invisible, as we awaited for help. What further added to our disappointment was the apparent bias in service. Two ladies arrived after we have been waiting for about 5 minutes, and to our surprise, the staff promptly attended to their needs without giving us a second glance. This experience left us questioning whether our patronage was valued at all. While we refrain from explicitly attributing the disparity to any specific factor, our experience has led us to question if bias from a particular staff member played a role in our interaction. The selective attention we observed made our visit uncomfortable, as it left us wondering about the fairness and inclusivity of the customer service at Edelweiss. The lack of acknowledgment and selective service left a bitter taste, overshadowing any anticipation we had for the Hot Chocolate Festival YYC. As a result, we made the rather easy decision to leave without purchasing anything. As customers, we believe that fair and equal treatment is a fundamental aspect of a positive shopping experience. Regrettably, our visit to fell short of our expectations, and we left feeling not only unnoticed but also unappreciated. We had hoped for a pleasant outing, but the dismissive attitude of the staff has led us to a firm decision – we won't be returning. Moreover, we feel compelled to share our experience with friends and family, advising them against patronizing this store. In conclusion, for anyone seeking good service and a positive customer experience, Edelweiss Village will not be the ideal choice. Our suggestion is to explore other options where customer satisfaction and equal treatment are...
